Barricades
From NexusWiki
Barricades are barriers that can be created by players using the Structural Engineering skill. They impede the movement of landbound players across the tile boundaries on which they are built. These players must then either destroy or dismantle the barricades or choose an alternate route.
On the Map Interface, barricades are represented by a visible gap between tile locations. Characters without Flight, Air Seep, or Corner Stepping abilities will not be presented with an option to move to the tile that is barricaded off.
Constructing or deconstructing barricades does not earn any Experience Points and does not count toward any Accomplishment Badges.
[edit] Effect
A barricade is a one-way barrier that prevents characters from walking in certain directions. Barricades exist outdoors and are only visible on the outdoor map (not inside buildings).
Barricades affect movement from the square that they face and only from that square. Suppose you are standing in a barricade-free area and erect a barricade on the west side of your current square. There are no restrictions on movement from this square; the barricade is one-way, and lets you leave your current square. So you move to the west. Now there is a barricade facing you; you may not walk east, northeast, or southeast from this square. You may walk in the other five possible directions.
In the diagram to the right, red arrows denote illegal movement while green arrows denote allowed movement. Barricades are denoted by the light blue dotted lines.
- In box 1, the player is blocked by external barricades in both the Northern and Eastern tiles. In boxes 2 and 3, the player is blocked by a single external barricade located in the Northern and Eastern tiles respectively. None of these movements are legal.
- In boxes 4-6, the player passes through internal barricades located in his tile (he is moving from the inside of the barricades out). All of these movements are legal.
- In box 7, the player is blocked by two external barricades in the Northeast tile. In boxes 8 and 9, the player is blocked by a single external barricade located at the Southern and Western faces, respectively, of the Northeast tile. None of these movements are legal.
- In box 10, the player passes through internal barricades in both the Northern and Eastern tiles. In boxes 11 and 12, the player passes through a single internal barricade located in the Eastern and Northern tiles respectively. All of these movements are legal.
If there is a combination of barricades containing those shown in boxes 2, 3, 8, or 9, the movement is illegal.
[edit] Strategy
Barricades can be constructed to "seal off" hard-to-reach places, such as dead ends, giving players that little extra security before they "AP out." This is not foolproof, as any sufficiently determined player can destroy weaker barricades.
[edit] Construction
Construction of a barricade requires the Structural Engineering skill. Constructing a barricade costs 2 Action Points per 10 Hit Points to be added to the barricade. Barricades can have a maximum of 400 Hit Points.
Characters with the Strength skill add an extra 5 Hit Points to barricades they construct.
Characters with the Nexus Champion Tattoo of Strength skill add an extra 10 Hit Points to barricades they construct.
[edit] Deconstruction
In addition removing barricades by attacking them, characters with the Structural Engineering skill can disassemble barricades, provided that they are on the "inside" of the barricade. Deconstruction attempts cost 1 Action Point and reduce the barricade's Hit Points by 5.
Characters with the Strength skill can remove an extra 5 Hit Points from the barricade.
Characters with the Nexus Champion Tattoo of Strength skill can remove an extra 10 Hit Points from the barricade.
[edit] Decay
Barricades decay at a rate of 5 Hit Points per day. Left unmanaged, all barricades will eventually crumble into dust.
