In the eternal struggle, your character will find the need to protect his or herself, and grab the nearest thing at their disposal. Fortunately, there exist a wide variety of improvised and melee weapons that allow your character to inflict pain and death up close and personal.
In determining the overall ethos of the next universe, it was understandable that weapons would play a big part in the struggle. Divine Champions state that the reason for the plentiful supply of melee weapons is to be able to be able to strike deep into the heart of Stygia and root out the evil once and for all. Pariahs love the chaos that melee weapons bring to the city, allowing for them to be able to meet their foes head on. Regardless, no one is questioning why such melee weapons lie scattered around the battlefield of Nexus: the playing field must be balanced somehow in order to give all of the sides a fair chance.
Melee weapons can be used untrained, but are improved through the purchase of the Melee Combat skill tree. Various other second and third-tier skills (such as the Myrmidon's Weapon Mastery) or spells (such as Shade of the Dervish), can also improve your chances to hit with melee weapons. The individual weapons state which side-branch of the Melee Combat skill tree they belong to, and if they suffer from Decay or not.
Currently, the melee weapons found around Nexus are:
