Decay

Over time, various elements of the game will decay. Decay is a process whereby an element's effectiveness is reduced.

There are several types of decay: Infusion decay, Barricade decay, and Item decay are the most common. Item decay can be broken up into weapon use decay, armor use decay, and death decay.

Contents

[edit] Infusion Decay

Location Infusions decay at a rate of 1 point per day (24 real hours), once per day. Most infusions decay on the same tick, regardless of initial infusion time. This reduces a Faction's hold on a location by 1 point. If the location's karma (the value of its infusion) is reduced to 0, the location is no longer aligned with a faction.

Infusions on the square which contains the faction's Stronghold will not suffer infusion decay.

[edit] Barricade Decay

Barricades erected throughout the map will decay over time. The rate of decay is 10 of the barricade's Hit Points per day (24 real hours). If the barricade's Hit Points is reduced to 0, the barricade is removed from the location.

Barricade decay affects all barricades in a square. Note that the rate of barricade decay is equal to one application of the "Enforce Barricade" action.

[edit] Item Decay

Not all items will decay. Decay primarily affects all weapons (except Improvised), wearable armor (not Clothing), and Accessories.

Items that do decay pass through several states of quality. Items of higher quality perform better than items of lower quality and destroyed items do not perform at all. Decayed items can be repaired by characters with the Repair Item skill.

Item qualities are:

  • Pristine - The item is of extraordinary quality. With weapons, this grants a bonus of +5% to attack and +1 damage for attacks made with that weapon. With armor, this translates to a bonus of +2 to the soak value for each damage type for which the armor has a base soak value of at least 1.
  • Good - The item is of above-average quality. With weapons, this translates to an additional +5% to attacks made with the weapon. With armor, this translates to a bonus of +1 to the soak quality of the armor.
  • Average - The item provides no bonuses or penalties.
  • Worn - The item is of below-average quality. With weapons, this translates to a -10% penalty to attacks made with the weapon. With armor, this translates to a penalty of -1 to the soak quality of the armor.
  • Broken - The item is of near-unusable quality. With weapons, this translates to a -20% penalty to attacks made with the weapon. With armor, this translates to a penalty of -3 to the soak quality of the armor.
  • Destroyed - The item is damaged beyond usability. It is not possible to make an attack with a destroyed weapon. Destroyed armor provides no soak bonus.

[edit] Weapon Use Decay

Whenever a character makes a successful attack with a weapon, the weapon has a chance of being damaged (4%). An exception to this rule involves attacks with melee weapons: if the player has purchased the Expert Blade Combat skill, then they may not damage their melee weapons by attacking with them.

[edit] Armor Use Decay

Every time a character wearing armor is struck by a weapon, the armor has a chance to suffer decay (4%). This chance is rolled regardless of whether or not the armor protects versus the damage type dealt by the weapon. This is only rolled versus one type of armor.

The Pariah skill Corrode Claw can improve the chances of armor degradation (8% rather than 4%). Whenever a Pariah with the skill makes a successful Blood Claws attack, all armor worn by the target character has a chance to be damaged.

[edit] Death Decay

Whenever a character dies, all items that he or she is carrying have a chance of suffering a point of quality degradation. This chance is 20% and is rolled against all items. If an item does not have differing levels of quality (i.e. Dose of Painkillers) it will have a 20% chance of being destroyed and removed from your inventory. Accessories, Ammunition, Crafting Components, Clothing, Potions, and Spells cannot be destroyed.

[edit] Enchantment Decay

Enchantments can suffer from death decay. Whenever a character is killed, a roll is made once per item at a rate of 70%-12%, depending on level. If an enchantment is destroyed, it is simply removed from the item. Enchanted accessories and clothing (enchanted with the Enchant Item skill), have half the normal rate of decay. Thus, while armor and weapons may have a 40% chance to degrade at level 16, accessories and clothing have a 20% chance to degrade.

[edit] Favor Decay

[edit] Honor Decay

A Faction's honor decays at a rate of 2% per day (rounded up) if they have a positive amount of honor.
