Disclaimer: the Nexus DWB is not a subset of, nor affiliated with, the mortal plane Doctors Without Borders
We heal anyone, regardless of alignment, faction, or basically anything.
(Except Demons, they've made their choice, and they can't be helped)
Doctors Without Borders is an independent humanitarian organization committed to one major goal: to provide medical aid wherever needed, regardless of age, sex, faction, class or morality.
Having rejected the notion that all newcomers must take up arms in the battle between Paradise and Stygia, we take to the streets; you will find our doctors manning hospitals, working pharmacies, running surgeries and holding open-air clinics for the sick and wounded.
Based from a location somewhere in Saint Germaine, the brave souls of DWB strive to uphold their duties as doctors for all time.
[edit] FAQ
[edit] I'm a new-born medic, how do I join?
The easiest way is to search for us in the faction directory and make your application (request an invite); alternatively, you can also speak to one of our representatives in any of Saint Germaine's hospitals. Write a few lines in your invitation request why you wish to join us. Note that we only admit those with medical experience (First Aid or better).
[edit] Relations with Other Factions and Diplomacy
The DWB strives not to get involved in any conflict situation. We do appreciate it if you set us to friendly, for it ensures the safety of our doctors a bit better, but please do not feel that we are ignoring you if we don't return the favour. We are just loathe to make any form of alliance with any faction in case it might give the idea that we are taking sides. Most of our rules are geared towards maintaining this neutrality in all affairs. If you feel that a member of the DWB has violated this neutrality in any way, please contact the DWB staff (details below) with as much information you can provide. We will tell you what action we undertook in response to your complaint.
Infusions could be one of the only items of contention that might actually bring us into some form of conflict with another faction. We do try to keep full bonuses, and with limited squares available, conflict is almost inevitable. But we will try our best to work out a compromise if you ask us. Since infusing a stronghold square is a form of aggression, we don't condone it. Not even in an infusion war. If this happens, please contact us the usual way for members violating the DWB rules.
[edit] Welcome message to all new recruits
Welcome to Doctors Without Borders!
Forum: http://docswb.proboards102.com
IRC: channel #dwb on irc://irc.nexuswar.com
Always glad to have another healer on board. The rules are simple: find the wounded and help them.
Remember, even evil people feel pain; try to heal rather than kill. (Demons excepted.)
[edit] Our Policy Towards Mortals
DWB do not attack mortals. This includes evil sorcerers, wizards, liches, elementalist, eternal soldiers, nexus champions, revenants and myrmidons.
The only exceptions are in cases of self-defense, or defense of patients. Doctors must be attacked first, or witness an attack on a patient, before initiating combat with a mortal.
DWB members should not pre-judge mortals based on their past behaviour (morality) or associations (faction). This means that pre-emptive surgical strikes against evil mortals who might pose a threat are not allowed.
[edit] Where to report Doctors who attack mortals in violation of our policy
Report any misbehaving Doctors here
Specifically: DWB members attacking you without provocation if you are an angel, unaligned, or mortal class.
Screenshots should be included in the report, showing both the DWB offense, and your own class.
Remember: DWBs reserve the right to defend themselves against anyone attacking them or attacking our Stronghold.
Malpractice reports will be taken on a case by case basis and may lead to banning if the Doctor is not found innocent of misbehaving, shows no remorse for his actions, or is a repeat offender.
[edit] What is your stance on Demon-kind?
This is a complicated question for many, it seems. Firstly, all Demons understand the consequences of their change, and therefore, is it safe to assume that they do not wish our aid in the first place. Secondly, Demons have a nasty habit of attacking medical centres; attacking what they view to be 'weak targets'. Of course, they are still sentient beings, and as such, present an interesting dilemma for those who still follow the Declaration of Geneva and Hippocratic Oath.
Therefore our membership has three unofficial solutions to the 'Demon problem':
- "Demons, although not human, are sentient beings and we are bound to offer assistance."
- As Demons may heal themselves using standard medical supplies, some members aid wounded Demons by giving them food and First Aid Kit.
- "Demons are evil, and must be destroyed: they are to be treated as a disease."
- Some of our members are military doctors, or have learned the art of warfare from other sources; these souls might feel that a proactive response suits the situation best.
- "Demons are to be avoided by any means necessary."
- Some of our members simply prefer to run away when Demons are present.
[edit] What to do if you find yourself in the middle of a raid
(from the Directives of Dactylos, Surgeon General ret.)
- If you find an ongoing raid you can heal people providing:
1. You heal both sides equally. Do not be tempted to heal only the "good" guys. If you can't heal both sides equally, then do not participate. Check this before you start healing people! This is very important and a big source of potential drama that I'd like to avoid at all cost. Keep logs in case drama ensues.
2. You do not attack either side, not even in self-defence. You cannot attack anyone or anything (i.o.w. pets) because that makes you, and by proxy the DWB, a participant in the raid. This is a ban-able offence.
3. You gain information about the raid fairly. No alt abuse, not even third party (acting on someone else's alt abuse). If someone inside the stronghold mentions a raid consider how they might have gained this information and use your common sense.
- Additional raid related rules:
1. You do not hang around to die if you have martyr's death in a stronghold. Save some AP and get out before you're too badly wounded. Nor do you use any other infusion related power in another stronghold.
2. You do not use wards in any way to hinder either raiding party. You cannot ward other stronghold squares, but this deals more with blocking attackers' routes and warding out people from their own stronghold after it has fallen in a raid. Note that a fallen stronghold still counts as a stronghold square when it comes to following the rules. It's still a faction's home; they just temporarily lost their keys.
3. No vulturing (killing people in a stronghold location after they lost it due to a raid).
[edit] Anything else I need to know as a new DWB?
A detailed version of the rules and guidelines (hopefully) explaining a lot of the grey areas can be found on the forums in this thread.
[edit] Charter of DWB
In a place far removed from our own mortality, spirits and souls do battle to determine which ethos will midwife the birth of the new creation.
We, the members of Doctors Without Borders, reject the notion that we must become warriors and killers in this new reality called The Nexus.
Inspired by memories of the mortal plane organization Médicins sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders), we have joined together to do all that we can to alleviate the suffering of our fellow beings.
Doctors Without Borders vows to provide assistance to all humans, mortal and ascended, in distress. We do so irrespective of class, level, morality, or faction.
We strive to remain neutral in the performance of our medical duties, and are pledged not to withhold healing from anyone in need, be they ally, neutral, or foe.
Addendum: We do, however, have the right to defend ourselves by any means necessary (including violence) from any being that attacks us.
[edit] Safe Access
As DWB stronghold is currently encroached by Evil factions, prudence dictates that new members (Interns) do not enjoy immediate access to the stronghold safe. We don't want our precious stored liquor and drugs being used by anyone but true DWBs. After registering in our forum, and showing one's mettle during the DWB Internship, we are happy to grant stronghold-safe access.
[edit] Sharing information learned with an alt
Do not do this.
Or any other form of Multi_Abuse
[edit] DWB Leadership and Contact Information
The DWB is currently (as of 6/8/2007) managed by a plenary committee of Surgeons General.
At least one of the Surgeons General may be found on call in the IRC channel #dwb at most times.
Communications for the DWB may also be posted at our forum site.
