Experience Points
From NexusWiki
Experience Points (or XP) are a raw measure of how much a character has learned and, well, experienced. The more Experience Points a character has, the higher his or her Character Level. As a character's level increases, his or her power increases as well.
Characters earn Experience Points through activity - be it combat, healing, reading books, picking locks - there are many ways to earn Experience Points.

[edit] Level Mechanics
Experience gained changes when attacking/healing a different Level and Tier than your own.
The Amount of XP granted for attacking / healing characters of different Tiers is changed to discourage "beating up" low-level characters, and encourage "taking on" high-level characters. As of Version 1.4.6, XP gains are calculated according to the following table.
| Attacker | | |||
| 20+ | 10-19 | 6-9 | 1-5 | |
| 20+ | 1 | .5 | .1 | .1 |
| 16-19 | 1.25 | 1 | .5 | .1 |
| 10-15 | 1.25 | 1 | .75 | .5 |
| 1-9 | 1.5 | 1.25 | 1 | 1 |
[edit] Anti-Farming Mechanics
Several actions will not provide XP as they are considered to be attempts to farm resources.
- Violations of Multi Abuse.
- Attacking a factionmate.
- Healing a character that you were the most recent to attack.
- Picking a lock that you have locked.
- Removing or restoring power to a building you have restored or removed power from.
[edit] Anti-Griefing Mechanics
The following measures were introduced in Beta 1.3 to ensure that people in massive high level factions would not farm members of smaller factions (tiny factions who would not be able to fight against large factions) for XP. Note that the following calculations occur when battles are fought inside a stronghold, only.
If the attacking faction is not hostile to the defending faction, XP is halved.
Otherwise:
- If the attacking faction is 5 or more levels higher than the defender, XP is multiplied by 0.25
- If the attacking faction is between 2 and 5 levels higher than the defender, XP is multiplied by 0.75
- If the attacking faction is "in range" of the defender, XP is multiplied by 1.1
- If the attacking faction is 2 or more levels below the defender, XP is multiplied by 1.25
