Flag Shield

The Flag Shield is a magical boundary which protects the standard in every faction stronghold. The standard cannot be taken until the shield is destroyed.

[edit] Destruction

The flag shield will be destroyed if any of these conditions occur:

1. The flag shield's Hit Points are reduced to zero. Characters can only attack flag shields if they are in a faction which is Hostile to the faction whose Stronghold they are attacking.

2. The last member of the faction is killed.

3. The last member of the faction leaves.

If the shield is destroyed in any way, its strength will fall to zero and remain there until the next tick, at which point it will regenerate normally. If the last defender steps out and immediately back in, the shield will fall and remain down until the next tick.

[edit] Regeneration

A damaged shield, or one which is growing due to increased factional membership or karma, will increase in size by a fifth of its maximum strength every tick. This occurs only if faction members are present. Flag shield regeneration may increase the Hit Points of the flag shield beyond its maximum. The shield will then contract to its maximum strength on the following tick.

Spellcasting classes with the Flag Warden skill may also increase the shield by 10 points by spending 1AP and 1MP. This cannot increase the Hit Points of the flag shield beyond its maximum.

[edit] Strength

The flag shield's maximum strength is the sum of twice the faction's membership and quintuple the faction's karma (2 * Membership + 5 * Karma = Shield HP). The shield's strength cannot be increased by any faction upgrades or any other means except increasing membership or karma.

The exact strength of any flag shield can be observed by characters possessing the psychometry skill.
