Hit Points, or HP, are a raw measure of a character's overall health. When characters are injured (through any means) their Hit Points are reduced. This generally occurs when an enemy character attacks your character, but it is also possible to receive damage performing other actions. For example, walking in certain planes without Planar Protection, stepping on lava without Fire Resistance, or a failed Alchemy experiment backfires.

If a character's Hit Point total reaches zero or lower, the character dies and must Respawn.

Unlike other game mechanics, Hit Points by default are not restored every 15 minutes.

On the Map Interface, a character's health is represented by a red dot next to their name. This is a quick visual indicator of the character's health: a solid red dot indicates that the character is fully healed, a half-dot that is filled in at the top indicates that the character is injured but is relatively healthy, a half-dot that is filled in at the bottom indicates that the character is injured below half their health, and an empty circle indicates that the character is critically wounded and in danger of dying. If the character possess the First Aid skill, the target character's actual Hit Point total will be visible in the target pane.

[edit] Extending Hit Points

Starting characters have a maximum of 50 Hit Points. Starting at their 10th level, a character will gain an additional Hit Point per level to their maximum total. Thus, at their 30th level, a character can have a maximum of 71 Hit Points.

Skills which further extend a character's maximum Hit Point total:

It is generally not possible for characters to exceed their maximum total. The only current exceptions to this rule are the Seraph's Holy Fury skill and Easter Eggs.

[edit] Recovering Hit Points

There are various items and skills which allow a character to heal themselves or others.

Demons suffer from an innate disability; they are unable to receive healing from other characters. They must provide for their own healing.

Certain Status Effects, such as Agony Curse, will prevent healing until the ailment is treated.
