Infusion

Infusion is the only method of increasing your faction karma and in turn activating faction bonuses. Faction bonuses are only received by characters on tiles infused to their faction. Stronghold wards' strengths are also largely based on infusion. Every point of infusion on the Stronghold tile will increase the faction's ward strength by three points.

Infusions are performed by characters with the appropriate skill for investing Magic Points into a location allowing them to claim it for their faction. It is not possible to infuse a location if your character is not a member of a faction; however, some Demonic classes can use Unholy Stain without being a member of any faction.

A location can be infused multiple times to strengthen your faction's grip of the location. Doing so does not increase the karma value. An infusable square can have 500 points of infusion.

Every night one infusion point at every location decays, until eventually the location becomes neutral again. Therefore, infusion must either be conducted with multiple Magic Points into a location or re-infusion must occur frequently for it to have any long-term benefit for your faction.

Additionally, other factions may attempt to steal a location from you. If a character in another faction infuses a location belonging to your faction, it drops the location's infusion strength by 1 Magic Point, until it reaches 0, at which point additional infusion attempts add Magic Point strength for their faction instead.

An infuser cannot infuse a location that has already been infused by another faction while a member of that other faction is in the location. In other words, if Faction A has infused a location and a member of Faction A is currently in that location, then no member of any other faction can infuse there. Other factions seeking to infuse must either wait for all members of Faction A to leave, kill all members of Faction A present, or infuse elsewhere. Remember that indoors and outdoors are different locations, even on the same square, and that only outdoor tiles may be infused; if a member of Faction A is indoors, they will not block infusions by other factions.

Infusing a location does not earn any Experience Points and does not count toward any Accomplishment Badges. It is done solely for the benefit of the faction.

[edit] Faction Bonuses

Faction members receive 5% bonuses to attack, defense, and search, and +1 damage, on squares infused to their faction.

The two special factions receive a partial bonus of 3% to attack, defense, and search on squares infused by a faction of their alignment. For example, member of the Divine Army will receive these bonuses on ANY square infused to a Good faction. There is no damage bonus for these characters, regardless of the tile's infusion.

[edit] Plane bonuses

Successfully infusing a location grants a certain amount of karma to your faction depending on the plane and your faction alignment. For every location in Valhalla infused with Magic Points from a member of your faction, the faction gains 5 karma. Every location in Purgatorio or Nifleheim nets 6 karma. If your faction is Good, every location infused in Stygia or its Warrens nets 7 karma. If your faction is Evil, every location infused in Paradise or Nimbus also nets 7 karma.

Plane Faction Alignment
Good Neutral Evil
Valhalla 5 5 5
Purgatorio 6 6 6
Nifleheim 6 6 6
Paradise 5 6 7
Nimbus 5 6 7
Stygia 7 6 5
Warrens 7 6 5

[edit] Location bonuses

Certain locations provide additional bonuses which stack with the planar/alignment bonus.

[edit] Infusion skills

Tier 2 classes with the appropriate skill can perform an infusion.

It costs 1 Action Point and 1 Magic Point per infusion. Infusions can only be performed outside of buildings. Certain locations, such as the sewer or sea, cannot be infused.

The Wizard's Greater Infusion increases the infusion strength from 1 to 2, while maintaining the same cost as a normal infusion.

The Defiler's Salt the Earth and Advocate's and Lightspeaker's Martyr's Death cause triggered infusions, which are permitted indoors.

The Shepherd's Holy Conduit Prayer answer increases the infusion strength from 1 to 5, while maintaining the same cost as a normal infusion.

The Sorcerer's Tap Ley Line allows them to convert the Magic Points their faction has invested in a location into Magic Points they can use.

Dark Oppressors, Wyrm Masters, and Void Walkers can purchase the skill Unholy Stain. Use of this skill costs 1 Magic Point, 1 Action Point, and can remove three points of infusion on a square, but cannot add infusion points. This skill can be used by factionless demons and in the presence of members of the faction to which the tile is infused.

The Psychometry skill allows one to determine information about the infusions in a location. Characters can see exactly how many infusion points are at locations infused to the character's faction, but can only see who has infused other tiles, and not the strength of those infusions.
