[edit] Faction Philosophy

Tired of people picking on you for your spindly magus wrists? Afraid you're the only one who uses spells? Tired of the macho melees pushing you around? Interested in the biggest stockpile of spell scrolls around?

Do you enjoy smiting your foes with spells? Do you want to? Do you enjoy opening doors, throwing wards aside, casting them yourself, or being awesome? Do you want to? If so, the Magi Anonymous is...for you, or your loved one. Offering a fine collection of spells, magicks, and regalia, the Magi Anonymous is the ideal place for your mage, witch, summoner, or magic-using soldier.

We don't try to get you to quit. Let those 100%-to-hit thunder bolts relieve the stress! Come together, as one faction that realises one thing: mages kick ass.

[edit] History

Magi Anonymous were originally founded before the catastrophe which banished the souls of the warriors in the Nexus permanently back into the void. It was during this period that its basic alignment and outlook were defined.

After the disaster, bands of mages once again rallied to the banner of Magi Anonymous, founded anew by the Archmage Zexion. A stronghold was founded in Iverson, with research being conducted at Grassy Knoll Books. As time passed, the faction was restructured to allow for more streamlined organisation.

However, the new stronghold presently fell under attack by the nearby and larger Democratic Armed Republic of Independent Suburbs. Initial attacks resulted in a large portion of MA's strength being dispersed, but eventually order was restored and a period of calm ensued. This was not to last, as DARIS' attacks resumed some time later. Several times Magi Anonymous took losses as the ward was breached, until finally the standard was taken shortly before July 8th, 2006.

At 1800 GMT on July 8th, the combined forces of Magi Anonymous, The Legion and the Creedy Defense Force attacked the DARIS stronghold in Northcamp, recovering the standards of Magi Anonymous and The Legion.

Following the raid, it was decided to set up a new stronghold in a small educational institute on the island of Poco Maquez, namely Salvadore High. Here the faction grew steadily during a period of relative calm.

On September 21st, Demons and Warriors bearing the colours of The Shining Ones attacked Salvadore High, forcing the revocation of the Stronghold. The Stronghold was replaced at the same location the following day.

In reprisal for this attack, the TSO stronghold was destroyed at 1400 GMT on September 23rd by Magi Anonymous, supported by Acta Sanctorum and the Creedy Defense Force. Acta Sanctorum captured the enemy Standard.

[edit] Goals and Policies

The goals of Magi Anonymous are to provide safety and services for the magic-using population of St. Germaine. To this end, the faction attempts to provide a safe haven for its members where they can safely increase their knowledge, spread knowledge of important spells, provide limited numbers of powerful magical artifacts, and destroy factions which constitute a threat to mages.

Notably, Magi Anonymous refuses to engage in opportunistic attacks on the strongholds of other factions, or in pre-emptive strikes. The organised used of lethal force is reserved for retaliation against openly aggressive factions and for aiding allied factions.

As he uses spiritual rather than physical weaponry, the Sorcerer is often forced to draw upon his own life force in order to achieve his ends. As a result, victory in battle tends to be almost as damaging as defeat, and hence Mortal healers and Shepherds are especially welcome. Healers are reminded that it is pointless to heal physical wounds until the spirit has recovered, and this recovery can only happen with time.

[edit] Morality and Alignment

Magi Anonymous is largely ambivalent to moral issues. While the faction strictly enforces non-aggression pacts and alliances, taking serious action against those who breach them, we are not concerned with the morality of its members. Most importantly, we consider incidental skirmishes with Good members of other factions to be completely ordinary. Complaints of Magi Anonymous members attacking Good characters (from unallied factions) will be ignored.

Magi Anonymous is not a Good-aligned faction; it is a Good-open faction, and it is 'Good' in name only. Of course, we are as far from supporting Stygia as we are from supporting Paradise. Our only allegiance is to the spellcasters of St. Germaine. It is true that many spellcasters are part of neutral factions, and would likely be our enemies in times of war. Our policy does not guarantee these persons immunity from our members' patrols; we feel that the important thing is that our stronghold is open to them, should they ever need security in these troubled times.

Conversely, it is the norm for members to learn magic. Most members become a Sorcerer or a Shepherd. The ones that become a Myrmidon or a Paladin are then expected, in the main, to continue to Nexus Champion or Divine Champion respectively. A select few powerful fighters such as Seraphs, Eternal Soldiers and Revenants may be admitted in the future for specific tasks, but this is expected to be the exception rather than the rule.

It is our regret that it is not possible to allow Defilers to join the faction. We hold students of Unholy magic in high esteem and other services, such as spell trading, are fully available to them. Unfortunately, there are genuine dangers when Good and Evil forces are brought into close proximity, and we cannot endanger our other members by allowing Defilers to use the stronghold. We sincerely apologize for this state of affairs.

It should be noted that this imbalance between Shepherds and Defilers is the only way in which we differentiate between Good and Evil, and this is because the choice was forced upon us. Evil Sorcerers and Nexus Champions are more than welcome to join, and indeed Evil Sorcerers already make very valuable contributions to the faction. Similarly, they will be protected just as fiercely as any other member against external aggression.

[edit] Structure

New members of Magi Anonymous who have not yet proven themselves are known as Acolytes. These members are given sanctuary in a stronghold whenever possible, and benefit from the strength that the unity of mages provides. However, access to the magical Vaults is withheld, and they are rarely privy to major factional decisions. The rank is intended to be a temporary one; nevertheless, Acolytes are no less respected than other members.

Acolytes who have earned the trust of the faction form the bulk of the faction, and are considered to be Magi in their own right. They participate fully in the everyday actvities of the faction, and have access to the Vaults.

Arcanists are appointed by the Archmage to oversee some specific task in which the faction is engaged. To this end, they are responsible for the training of Acolytes and for reprimanding other members when necessary. The rank of the Arcanist is considered to be between that of the Mage and the Archmage.

The highest rank in the hierarchy of Magi Anonymous is that of the Archmage. The dynamic Archmage Zexion was responsible for reforming the faction soon after the Nexus began to be repopulated. The powerful Archmage Azalin guides the faction and is reknowned for his excellent coordination of the faction's activities. The ever so slightly mad Archmage Mahad is responsible for overseeing the faction's activities in times of war. Other, legendary Archmagi may have existed in times past.

[edit] Services

The major services provided for the magic-using community of St. Germaine are our Spell Transcription services. All who can cast spells are welcome to request spells here, and we will happily find a fair price.

[edit] Spell Transcription

Magi Anonymous provides spell scrolls according to a price list available on the open section of our Forum. Almost all spells are now available. Our stock includes exceptionally rare spells such as Aether Wave, Death Cloud, all forms of extended greater wards, and Dispel Greater Ward. Our transcription team is efficient and well-equipped to fill your orders promptly.

[edit] Diplomacy

Magi Anonymous has made claim to the island of Poco Maquez, as well as Maquez proper. The entire island is used for magical study, and research. Limitations are set on the two islands for its protection. Factions that wish to build their stronghold on the islands of Maquez, are encouraged to ask first.

It is the goal of Magi Anonymous to enlighten young minds with the ways of the magus, and to expand our understanding of the mystical arts. As our direct neighbors, The Literati, and Unseen University share this goal, they are considered to be, and accepted as, our equals.

Alliance of St. Germaine is considered to be the best friend we could ask for. The alliance is just a short ferry ride away on Harper Island, and is often willing to provide aid, asking little in return aside from a good drink at Perry's.

It is now policy, to permanently mark a faction as hostile if they engage on an attack on our stronghold, although, a few special exceptions are made.

There are also some cases where a faction may be temporally set to hostile for some reason. This could range anywhere from aiding Unseen University in a raid, to an Arcanist who had a few too many drinks at Perry's.

All friendly factions are encouraged to take a screenshot should they be attacked by a member of Magi Anonymous. We take a dim view and such things and will take care of the problem once it is brought to our attention.
