Melee
From NexusWiki
A Melee Attack is the damage style associated with an attack action performed by using close-combat hand-held items such as Swords, Knives, Daggers, and various Improvised weapons.
All melee attacks have a base 10% chance to hit. Your to-hit chance with these attacks can be improved by buying certain Mortal skills:
- Melee Combat, +20%
- Advanced Melee Combat, +15%
- Fencing, +10% (Sword class weaponry only)
- Advanced Melee Combat, +15%
Thus, an expert sword wielder has a 55% chance to hit. This accuracy can be further improved by enchantments and quality modifiers. An experienced improvised melee combatant has a maximum 45% chance to hit. A limited amount of enchantments are available to improvised weaponry, but they cannot be crafted or repaired. However, they do benefit from never suffering from decay.
Melee attacks are resisted by combat defense. They are also resisted by innate level-based defense and certain skills which offer defense versus weapons or 'all'.
[edit] Advantages
Mastering melee combat allows you to generally deliver more damage than you could with your bare hands.
While blades require weapon maintenance, the skill tree allows you to fall back to a dependable improvised weapon without requiring additional CP expenditure.
Melee combat does not require the additional time spent to search and load ammunition which is required for Ranged weapons.
[edit] Disadvantages
Defense bonuses provided by Dodge and Martial Arts offer a degree of protection against melee attacks.
Melee users must also contend with harmful Damage Auras.
When engaging in an air battle, unless the melee fighter is capable of lesser flight, they must be on the same elevation as their target.
Even with Expert Blade Combat, blades can still suffer from Death decay. Without a fellow player to depend upon for crafting and repairs, it may require picking up the Smithing tree.
Touch Attacks and Ranged Spells do not benefit from Melee bonuses.
A fully trained melee fighter is virtually powerless without a melee weapon in their hand (provided that they do not possess an alternative offensive ability).
[edit] Melee skills
This is a list of skills which benefit from the Melee skill tree:
- Divine Champion's Cloak of Steel (certain Heavy Items)
- Divine Champion's Cloak of the Vengeful Fire (Fire Sword)
- Divine Champion's Cloak of Hoarfrost (Frostblade)
- Seraph's Clockwork Blade (Magical sword)
- Infernal Behemoth's Whip of Suffering (Magical whip)
