Your understanding of the Nexus has given you greater insight to how magic works, enabling your spells to deal more damage overall.
This skill applies a permanent 25% increase in the damage dealt by any spells cast by the wizard. The damage bonus is applied only to the base damage dealt by the spell in question, before any factional or status effect bonuses are applied.
For example, a spell which deals 8 points of Fire damage is cast by a Wizard who has a +2 factional damage boost and a +2 damage boost from some other source. Without Nexus Empowerment, the spell would do 12 points of damage (8 + 2 + 2). With Nexus Empowerment, the spell will deal 14 points of damage (8 + (8/4) + 2 + 2), and not 16 points (which would mean Nexus Empowerment was applied after the bonuses).
With regards to Area of Effect spells, the damage bonus is applied both to the maximum damage dealt as well as individual damage.
However, there is a second path many spellcasters will follow, that of returning the wasted power to the spell. The reintroduction of this waste, properly attempted, into the casting serves to amplify the spell beyond that which others can imagine. Eventually, the spellcaster becomes so acclimated to the procedure that they can perform it almost reflexively.
There are those spellcasters who both seek to reclaim wasted energy as well as feed the remaining waste into the sending. Via these two forms (reclaimation and reintroduction, detailed later in this chapter), a Wizard can cast spells of almost unbearable force, at a fraction of the cost.
