A Map of Nifleheim
A Map of Nifleheim

Nifleheim is the formal name for the plane of existence that is most deeply aligned with death, death magicks, and the Elder Power of Hashaa. It is a plane of dust and dryness.

Legends state that the appearance of Nifleheim changes depending on the observer. That is, everything within the plane is, in actuality, a physical representation of abstract ideas. These ideas are impossible for mortal (and immortal) minds to comprehend, and thus they are "translated" into a form that is better able to be understood.

The format that the plane takes - its flavor and features - depend primarily on legends and stories from the dominant cultures of the most recent Nexal "breath." In its current incarnation, the bulk Nifleheim appears as a great desert while its buildings and history that of the United States "old west". However, there are huge areas that are represented by darker, more European stories of ghosts and other creatures of the night.

[edit] Travelling in Nifleheim

As Nifleheim is a large plane, travel between towns is most often accomplished via an ancient railway system. However, once outside of the town areas, there are no methods of mass or rapid transportation.

[edit] Features in Nifleheim

Nifleheim is a very large, mostly flat "island" floating in the Void. It is covered in square miles of dust plains, criss-crossed with a few rivers made of entirely of flowing dust particles. There are a few railroad lines that traverse between the towns. Here, everything is faded and decayed, dry and dead.

To the south east, however, there is "life" - of a sort. There, a dark, enchanted forest that covers several mountains and surrounds the city of Necropolis. This area is bordered on the west by the Impaler fields.

[edit] The Stone Colossi

Scattered around the edges of Nifleheim are several large, stone statues of human beings. They face outward from the plane, and appear to be watching for something.

[edit] Towns

The Plains of Dust are home to five towns: Lago, Boomtown, Big Whiskey, Dry Gulch, and Silverado. There is a sixth town, Necropolis, which lies across the Impaler Fields, surrounded by the Enchanted Wood and the Dead Marshes.

The town of Silverado is unique in that it lies on a large island that has "broken off" from the "mainland" of Nifleheim, and appears to be in danger of being swallowed entirely by the void.

[edit] Castle Vrykolakas

There is a dark and overgrown road that winds up the mountains from Necropolis to the enormous Castle Vrykolakas, once home to the dread Vampire Kings. It is now abandoned, however, though dark stories speak that Count Vrykolakas still sleeps beneath its stone foundations - merely waiting for a time when the Land of Death is once again home to the blood of the living.

[edit] Notes

Nifleheim is the land of death, and as such, the summoning of any Pet that requires a corpse (such as a Zombie, Skeleton, or Ghoul) can be done anywhere - all squares are considered to have the same rules as cemeteries.
