[edit] Location
Northpoint is located in the utmost north reach of Northcamp Island. It comprises the top section of Northcamp Island's "crescent," surrounding Kate's Bay.
[edit] Geography
Northpoint is home to several mansions, popular areas for searching for swords and other random magic items.
Northpoint is also home to one of the only cemeteries in the islands. This is especially of interest to Liches, who require a continuous supply of corpses for animation into Zombies, Skeletons, and Ghouls.
[edit] Recent History
Due to its remote nature and scant resources, Northpoint has had little of consequence occur in recent history.
[edit] Historical Background
Before the Europeans came to the islands, the area of Northpoint was seen by the native peoples of the islands as an area of minor holy importance - specifically, they used it to prepare and bury the dead of the "common" folk (priests and royalty were said to be lain to rest on the lost island of Mia Tigua).
During the era of the pirate kings, Northpoint was relatively unchanged: the pirates had little use for the lands, being concerned mainly with Northcamp. The islanders were thus allowed to continue about their business unmolested.
In 1756, when the Spanish began colonizing the islands they co-opted the Northern grasslands as well for their own burial grounds. However, they restricted the islanders to only using a small portion of the land for burial. This caused tensions to raise between the natives and the Spanish colonists.
In 1765, the Spanish began a program of slash-and-burn agriculture in an effort to plant as much tobacco as possible. During this process, however, several ancient burial sites were disturbed, an act that caused the natives to grow ever more angry. In June of that year, tensions got too high and violence erupted. The Spanish were forced to put down a small uprising, and several islanders were killed (the Spanish only recorded Spanish casualties - numbering 5 - though estimates say between 20 and 50 islanders were killed).
For the bulk of the 1800s, Northpoint remained an agricultural region. Several large mansions were built on the plantations during this time.
In 1929, many older burial sites were once again disturbed. However, this time, the exhumed bodies were lain to rest in Katherine Cemetery.
In 1958, the Northpoint Club was founded.
[edit] Travellers' Tips
The mansions are usually fairly desolate as those who would ransack them for gold and weapons usually can find a closer supply; these mansions also offer a fairly safe hiding place as well. The graveyard however is often populated with gatherers from the Northcamp and Iverson factions.
