[edit] Don't be an Asshole
This covers every situation that can ever arise that the leadership decide they don't like. Odds are, if you're being an asshole you know it. Stop it.
[edit] Alternate Characters
The short version: don't cheat. Keep your characters separate.
Further guidelines about the proper way to deal with alt-related or out of character information can be found on the official page about Multi Abuse and in the Exiled Original Gangsters Alt Abuse Rules
[edit] IRC behaviour
Treat irc channels as part of the game. This means that passing information that you learned from another faction's raid channel (except in cases where you are acting as an announced diplomat from OS) will be considered spying and possible alt-abuse.
While there could be legitimate and fun ways to incorporate spies into this game it's not something Oblivion wants to get involved with.
Do not, ever, go into an enemy's irc channel while we are either raiding them or being raided by them. (Exceptions are allowed for those who have characters in both factions and normally idle in the enemy's channel. Provided you remain idle until the raid is over. This may conflict with other faction rules, so be careful.)
[edit] Raiding
[edit] Solo Raids
Do not solo raid factions. This means you do not wander into a raid in progress, and do not pound on the ward outside. We do not want to end up sharing honor with some angelic faction by accident. This also has the potential to make us lose honor, which is a Very Bad Thing.
To clarify: if there is a stronghold icon (that little castle) in a square - then stay out of that stronghold. You can slaughter people standing around outside (but try to avoid messing with an obvious raiding party, this just avoids a lot of messy accusations. You should know a raiding party if you see one, but normally if you see four or more members of one faction then they are a raiding party.)
[edit] Allied Raids
Get approval from a leader rank (Entropy or Oblivion) before joining in on an allied faction's raid.
You are free to defend an ally who asks for help, so long as you do not have an alt in the ally's faction.
[edit] Who To Kill
- Green Names: Do not attack. These are mutual allies. Harming them will result in a reprimand or a ban, depending on the mood of the leader who handles your case. If you simply hit them once by accident, apologize to them and all should be forgiven.
- Blue Names: Attack and report to an OS leader. These characters are from a faction that OS is friendly towards, but who aren't friendly towards us. This should never be the case and indicates that a faction has turned traitor on us.
- Red Names: Attack. OS is hostile towards this faction, but they are not hostile towards us. Suckers.
- Black Names: Attack. These are mutual enemies. You are encouraged to be as ruthless as possible with these characters.
- Grey Names: Attack. These characters have no politics going for them one way or the other. If the character is factionless, kill them and then immediately invite them to join OS. (This is often referred to as Killviting.)
- Purple Names: Do not attack. These are members of OS. Do not attack, poison, use Dark Heart, do or anything otherwise damaging to them without direct permission from that player. Again, apologize if your action is accidental and all should be forgiven.
Turn on Colorblind Styles to make our faction politics even clearer when in battle.
[edit] Vulturing
"Vulturing" refers to killing characters who are sitting inside what is typically their stronghold square while their stronghold is down. This happens most frequently when their standard has been captured in the last 24 hours, rendering them unable to establish a new one. It is, in some circles, frowned upon.
Official OS policy is as follows: it is not our job to remember where you keep your stronghold, and you aren't magically entitled to your life. OS members are not encouraged to consciously engage in dogpiles with other factions, but should feel no remorse about otherwise engaging the enemy wherever they see fit. To our enemies: you are not safe behind your precious wards. You are even less safe without them.
