Pets are summoned or created creatures. A pet will follow its master to the best of its ability and will obey a limited set of commands. Most pets will engage in combat if ordered, and some pets have additional abilities, such as the power to heal others. The actual powers possessed by a pet depend on its type.

Pet-summoning skills are possessed by several Tier 3 character classes. Each skill will summon a different type of pet.

Elementalists, Lichs, Lightspeakers, and Wyrm Masters are commonly referred to as pet masters or pet classes. They possess a large set of skills devoted to the maintenance and conjuring of pets.

However, they are not the only classes capable of doing so. Nexus Champions and Revenants both possess the ability to summon pets.

[edit] Summoning pets

If the character has the appropriate skill and enough Magic Points, a pet may be summoned simply by clicking the appropriate skill button in the interface. This action costs a single Action Point.

Some pets have additional criteria that must be met before the pet can be summoned. For example, corpses may only be animated if there are corpses present in the location or the character is standing in a Cemetery. See the individual pet descriptions for details.

If the character is unable to summon the pet for any reason (such as insufficient Magic Points), the button will be visible but will be disabled.

Pets will despawn in the event of their controller's death.

[edit] Controlling pets

The Multifunction Pane's Pets Tab
The Multifunction Pane's Pets Tab

When a character has summoned a pet, a new tab will appear in the Interface labeled "Pets". Clicking this tab will display the pet management panel. Each pet that is controlled by the character will appear in a list, along with the pet's current Action Points, Hit Points, and Magic Points.

[edit] Pet stances

Pets may be ordered to assume one of several activity stances. Different stances will affect the way the pet selects its targets (or if it selects targets at all). Pet stances can be set in the Pets tab under the commands section in the Pets tab on the game Interface. This action costs no action Points.

The stances are:

  • Passive: The pet will do nothing except to follow the master. It will neither attack nor defend. This is the default pet behavior. Passive Aethersprites will continue to heal their master and other good characters.
  • Defensive: The pet will follow the master but will not attack on its own volition. If the master is attacked, the attacker will be placed into the pet's target list, and the pet will attack that character.
  • Aggressive: The pet will attack every character it encounters.
  • Aggressive to Hostiles: The pet will attack every character it encounters whose Faction has been deemed hostile by the master's faction.
  • Aggressive to Enemies: The pet will attack every character it encounters whose Faction has been classified as enemy by the master's faction (this is a subset of hostile characters).
  • Aggressive to Non-Faction Members: The pet will attack every character who does not belong to the master's faction.

[edit] Rejuvenation

After a while, all pets will run low on Action Points, Magic Points, and Hit Points. If any of these numbers reaches 0, the pet will despawn. The pet's master may choose to rejuvenate the pet which restores the pet's action, magic, and hit points.

Rejuvenation costs the master the same amount of MP as it did to summon the pet. The only case where rejuvenation costs less is with a Lightspeaker who possesses Caretaker's Blessing, where it costs half of the summon cost of the pet. This action costs a single Action Point.

The rejuvenation command is in the Pets tab under the commands section for the pet to be rejuvenated.

[edit] Dismiss

Pets can be dismissed at any time. Dismissing a pet causes it to despawn. Pets may be ordered to despawn using the "commands" section in the "Pets" tab. Dismissing a pet costs no Action Points.

[edit] Nicknames

Each summoned pet may be given a nickname. The nickname is applied to that pet only and allows characters to differentiate between pets of the same type.

Pet nicknames can be set in the Pets tab under the commands section for each pet. This action costs no Action Points.

[edit] Idle behaviors

All pets have idle behaviors, such as a zombie's attempt at speech. These are things that the pet sometimes does when it has no targets or anything else to do.

Idle behaviors are free; they cost the pet no Action Points to perform. However, idle Aethersprites will continue to heal others as applicable.

A list of pet idle behaviours is available here.

[edit] Other info

Pets will follow their owner everywhere, always remaining on the same square as the owner, even if the owner can only reach the square using a travel skill such as flight. However, even if the owner is using a travel skill that reduces their own AP cost for movement, the AP cost of the pet's movement is not reduced. Pets are immune to Lava burns, or any environmental dangers. They only affect the owner.

Attacks made by pets not only cost the pet 1 AP, but 1 MP as well. Pets, unlike characters, will not regenerate 1 AP and 1 MP every 15 minutes.

Skills for the owner do not in any way enhance the pets. For example, a Wyrm Master with Advanced Martial Arts, Dodge and Translucency will not enhance any of their pets because of these skills.

Pets have a set defense, to-hit, and in some cases immunity. Only factional bonuses will enhance the abilities of pets.

Actions performed by a pet only influence a character's accomplishment statistics for Angels Killed and Demons Killed.

Certain pets possess the ability to engage flying characters.

All pets have Enhanced Senses so they can see and attack hidden characters. When a pet attacks a hidden character, their presence will be shown to the pet owner. However, only Imps and Judgemasters can see and attack invisible characters.

[edit] Pets and Experience Points

Pet attacks give their master 1/2 Experience Points (rounded down). Pet heals (e.g. Aethersprite's healing) give their master no XP at all.

Attacking a pet grants 1/2 Experience Points (rounded down) of what would be earned if the attack was performed on the master.
