[edit] Location

Ridleytown is located on the small island of Ridley Island, in Wright's Channel, south of Iverson and north of The Wrench. To the east lies the island of Wright's Corridor

[edit] Geography

Ridleytown is located on Ridley Island, one of two islands between St. Germaine Island and Northcamp Island. The bulk of the neighborhood is sandwiched between two large buildings on either side of the island - Hammerstrom Airport to the West and Hayden Stadium to the East. Bridges extend to the north and south.

Ridleytown is filled with mostly slums, restaurants, and bars, with a few apartment buildings in the north. Gabe's Guns is located just south of Hayden Stadium.

[edit] Recent History

While many other areas have seen dramatic changes of late, Ridleytown remains quiet. Almost too quiet.

On June 9, 2007, Azrael La Croix, a member of the RRF, began to play shows at Cailean's Comedy Club. According to writings on and around the club, shows are held daily at 8PM GMT. From witness accounts, shows held vary from stand-up comedian shows. to guitar solo gigs.

On February 1, 2007, the Ridleytown Resistance Front returned its General Headquarters to Ridleytown after a period of time in which they resided in The Wrench and Iverson. To commerate the event, the RRF threw a Valentine's Day Squaredance on February 14 to celebrate that holiday and their triumphant return to their home.

[edit] Historical Background

The neighborhood of Ridleytown takes its name from the island upon which it lies, Ridley Island, which in turn takes its name from a 19th century British aristocrat, Lord Jonas Ridley.

Jonas Ridley was an eccentric individual - reclusive and furtive. When he arrived in Saint Germaine in 1878, he purchased the island outright for the sum of 3,000 pounds sterling and constructed a great mansion, the Ridley House, on the Western shore of the island. Ridley was somewhat of an enigma to the inhabitants of Saint Germaine, and it was whispered that he had been banished (or was fleeing) from England.

However, Jonas never exhibited any dark tendencies, and upon his death in 1954 he deeded the island back to the Saint Germaine Principality, with three caveats:

  • That Ridley House be forever maintained, if possible,
  • That at least 20% of the land be given over to public places, and
  • That it be used to the highest benefit of the peoples of Saint Germaine possible

To this end, the bulk of the island was given over to low-income housing. A park was erected around Ridley House and Hayden Stadium was built on the Eastern edge of the island.

However, in 1976 tragedy struck Ridley House in the form of a fire and the entire structure was lost. In its place was built Hammerstrom Airport, technically defined as being a "public work," and thus satisfying the terms of the will.

[edit] Travellers' Tips

Ridleytown has almost always, dating back to even the Alpha-version days, been a bastion for the Unaligned. The Ridleytown Resistance Front is based here, and this fact makes the area extremely unsafe for angels or demons, as the RRF and their allies like the GMT Breakfast Club will kill any aligned characters on sight.

Angels and Demons should avoid traveling here. If you are an angel or demon and find yourself in the area, it is advised that you leave as soon as possible. The Ridleytown Resistance Front is the strongest faction in Ridleytown (and one of the strongest in the game), and will kill aligned characters. Unaligned non-allies too, for that matter.

Even in the early morning you are not safe. When the Ridleys are all tucked in bed the GMT Breakfast Club is out and about, usually causing serious damage.
