[edit] The SOD are the army of the underworld dedicated to making and mastering the dead of the nexus.
Lead by the nexus incarnation of Osiris, Egyptian god of the underworld and the SOD high priests.
Should your soul weigh as worthy you will be enlisted into the army of Duat to do battle in the Nexus. The unworthy will be slaughtered and eventually their corpses enslaved as skeletons, zombies and ghouls.
Until the nexus incarnation of Osiris gains the skills for controlling the dead, he and the rest of the SOD will be focused on filling the nexus with corpses for future use in the war. (like everyone in the war at the end of history, even though he is an ageless god he started fighting the war a powerless mortal) This means we will be destroying other factions, and basically slaughtering anyone who does not join or align with us. You should note that Osiris himself and the SOD are Evil. Making corpses is work that often requires doing things like entering a hospital or library and laying waste to every character in it regardless of morality. Things like that may be by many considered "evil". Osiris does not really care what the morality gauge of the nexus lists him at, he is a judge, not the judged and does what he must. Do not feel that you must have the goal of becoming a lich or even being evil to join the SOD. The faction is not aligned and there is plenty of room and opportunity for all other mortal and demonic paths (pariahs, defilers, sorcerers, wizards, elementals, myrmidons, nexus champions and eternal warriors). Lichs need folks to help make corpses after all and the faction will always condone the use of other skills and magics to help further the goals of the faction. (It's just that the whole "being alive" thing kinda bothers Osiris not having much history dealing with the living and he feels that being alive should not be a requirement for him to walk the Nexus, thus the theme of the undead for the faction)
To request entry to Duat and save yourself from slaughter and enslavement in the war at the end of history you will need to do a few things:
-Register for the SOD forums.
-Post your character's Nexus war profile there under the topic Request Entry to Duat.
-Your character will be sent an invitation to join the Soldiers of Duat faction in Nexus War, accept it and you're in.

[edit] SOD New Member Manual
For perspective members, I'm posting an excerpt from the manual issued to all new SOD entitled "So you've joined the army of the Underworld, now what?"
Before you begin your glorious existence as a Soldier of Duat and member of Osiris's army of the underworld here in the nexus. Please make yourself familiar with the rules and regulations you are to be held accountable for. Failure to follow these rules is punishable by repeated death (and here in the nexus we can just keep killing you, over and over again)
Rule #1
Make anyone not a member of or aligned with The SOD a corpse.
You should always ask yourself if the action you are considering will comply with this rule.
Here are some things to think about before you take any action: Will the action I am about to take cause a non SOD member or non SOD ally to become a corpse or at least become closer to becoming a corpse? If the answer to this question is yes, then what you are about to do is permissible by SOD standards.
If you are not about to directly and personally turn a non SOD member or non SOD ally into a corpse with an action you are considering ask yourself this question: Will the action I am about to take somehow facilitate the death of a non SOD member or non SOD ally? If the answer to this question is yes, then what you are about to do is permissible by SOD standards.
This question however, may sometimes require some thought to answer so here are some examples for your future reference:
I thinking of healing someone, is that OK?
While healing may seem counter productive to creating a corpse, is the person you intend to heal going to make or aid in making corpses out of characters not in or affiliated with the SOD? If the answer is Yes, then is is permissible. If no it is against faction rules.
I'm thinking of fixing something or creating and item, is that OK?
While fixing things or creating an item may seem counter to turning a character into corpse, is the thing you intend to fix or create going to make or aid yourself or others in making corpses out of characters not in or affiliated with the SOD? If the answer is Yes, then is is permissible. If no it is against faction rules.
I'm thinking of learning, casting or transcribing a spell, is that OK?
Is the spell you intend to learn, cast or transcribe going to make or aid yourself or others in making corpses out of characters not in or affiliated with the SOD? If the answer is Yes, then is is permissible. If no it is against faction rules.
I'm thinking of infusing or corrupting an area, is this OK?
If you are a member of the SOD faction infusing or corrupting is always OK. It will facilitate the making of non-SOD or non SOD allied characters into corpses, always.
Rule #2
TBD. But really, we are just fine with the one rule thus far as it really covers a bunch of stuff and don't see the need to make things more complicated right now.
If you have questions as to whether or not an action you are considering to take will follow SOD rules, please feel free to consult with me or one of the SOD priests.
Oh, and no zerging please, one character per account in the faction.
Welcome to The SOD. Now go make a corpse or help someone else do it.
OK, so that's all there really is to whole the manual so far. I've been busy making corpses.
[edit] SOD Book of the Dead
Here are recorded the names and deeds of the mighty Soldiers of Duat
June 4th 2006 to August 16th 2006
Various things have happened since the SOD have begun to roam the Nexus. ...but frankly Osiris's scribes have been busy making corpses so details had not been properly recorded until now. During this time period TheNads became the first soldier and quickly rose to the role of high priest and then god of the underworld. SOD PCPPlod, Bunyan and Vamp have also risen to the rank of High Priest. The stronghold was set up, then destroyed by the unaligned faction Tetramagammton. The battle was fierce with several of the attackers being turned back by Osiris before the sleeping members of the SOD were overcome. The Tetramagammton paid the price a day later as the SOD took part in a raid with newly formed Axis of Evil and saw their standard retrieved by a member of fellow Axis faction The Decepticons. Many raids have occurred with Axis factions since that time as the Axis has succeeded in routing factions such as Balance, the Divine Slayers, Paradox, Friend Computer's Finest, Sentinels, The Conclave, Tetramagammton, Convent of Nuns, Children of the Lightbulb, The Ascended. and Keepers of the Light from Northgate island and Wright's Corridor. SOD have had a hand in nearly all of those raids. Some of these factions banded together with Acta Sanctorum for an attack on the SOD stronghold the first week of August 2006. The SOD quickly recovered, set up shop again in Marco's Bistro on Northpoint and began the business of making corpses once again days later.
August 17th 2006
The SOD converted the faction Among All There Are Few to corpses today. It became apparent the faction was healing people that were not making corpses as per the policy of the army of the underworld. Thus the SOD entered, removed the hearts of all present in the faction and weighed their souls for worthiness.
SOD TheNads, PCPlod, Sudo, Shaina, Dr.Bob, Malentor, Chitchutake and Brother Nathanial were among those who smashed the protective ward, removed the hearts of the judged and generally tore the place up. None of the Among All There Are Few were deemed worthy, so their pitiful corpses were discarded and the stronghold dismantled by SOD Malentor. The honor and might of the SOD increased this day due to these actions and Northgate island was rid of yet another mound of cheesy goodness.
August 18th 2006
The SOD paid a visit to the Neighborly Communists collective in the mansion located at 8,3 today. Unfortunately for them, the SOD is not very neighborly if you are a good faction and have not sufficiently bribed us.
Due to the misfortune of their selection of a stronghold location next door to the SOD pyramid erected on the site of Marco's Bistro SOD members TheNads, PCPLOD, Sudo, Dr.Bob and Shaina busted the protective ward surrounding the commies and entered the stronghold. The NC did put up a fight when the ward was attacked however they were beaten back into their hold. Once the SOD entered the communists were quickly dispatched by removing their hearts. Their souls were weighed, deemed unworthy and then Osiris dismantled the stronghold. Before leaving, we destroyed the statues of Marx, Lenin, Castro and Mao they had displayed and graffiti was painted around the now shabby looking mansion that was formerly their hold saying things like "only bourgeoisie belong in a mansion" and other remarks we hoped would offend a communist should the neighborly crew be foolish enough to attempt to set up another state run cooperative in the area of Northgate again. The honor and might of the SOD grew again this day and one less good faction inhabits the island of Northgate.
August 20th 2006 - August 22nd 2006
The SOD stronghold gets raided on the 20th. The Divine Slayers, Sentinels, and some random members of the Blood Hawk Brigade and DWB convened on the pyramid to take back the Among all there are few standard. Boy, those guys hold a grudge just because they were kicked of the island. Again, the SOD is flattered by the attention of the well executed raid and looks forward to seeing the members of those factions again. The hold is set up again days later, this time in the community of Iverson coveted for it's proximity to grassy Knoll books and a gun shop. Newly inducted Priests Sudo and DrBob were instrumental with the setting up of the hold, with Sudo invoking the hulking Pyramid on tile 4,13. After a little bit of scouting, regular raids will resume this week, terrorizing the good factions of the nexus.
August 23rd 2006 - September 9th 2006
Resistance, Moving, Problem Children, Divine Slayers and a visit to the clinic.
While Iverson was nice, the RRF paid a few visits to the SoD stronghold that were, well less than pleasant. However during the Iverson stay, several SoD including Osiris, TheNads, Shong and Sovy Kurosei took part in an Axis raid on the Children of the Light Bulb which ended with the Axis factions dismantling the Children’s stronghold. The SoD’s stay in Iverson ended with a move to Wright’s corridor. That location didn’t last long as the Children set up on Wright’s again and hit the SoD’s freshly created stronghold sending the faction off to new digs once again before most of the faction even saw the place. The SoD moved back north, this time setting up in the White Corporation building on Northcamp. From there the SOD began to visit Wright’s again, breaking the Children of the Lightbulb’s protective ward (and extra wards, and several doors) on three separate occasions. Osiris, TheNads, PCPLod, Bunyan, Sudo, Sovy Kurosei, Shong, Zsass Tam and Volt Pirate took part in raids that on different occasions included members of Axis factions the -Avengers, Decepticons and Undeadites. A fourth raid on the 7th finally dismantled the protective ward around the Children and say a member of the decepticons claim the standard. (Yes it took four tries and several SoD dying, several times.. Kudos to the lightbulb).
The SoD next paid a visit to Wright’s Corridor Free Clinic. The folks at the clinic were a bit peeved about the visit, but SoD member Sovy Kurosei did his best to explain the action taken against them in this thread on the SoD forums: link Sovy's explenation
The 9th brought a long overdue visit to the Divine Slayers by Osiris in an Axis raid that included primarily Undeadites and a couple members is the-Avengers. Flags were retrieved for several axis factions and the Slayer stronghold was dismantled by the undeadites. .The Slayers however quickly recovered their stronghold after that raid, there is surely more confrontation going to occur on that front.
The honor and might of the SOD grew during this time.
September 10th 2006 - October 18th 2006
This was an eventful time for the Soldiers of Duat. After regular assaults by the RRF the SoD began the relocation of the Axis of Evil to Harper island.
There, the group started to establish Harper as a new bastion of evil along with the Undeadites as the forward front for the axis. Clearing out such factions as Paradox (they can't seem to get away from us can they?) Legion of Everblight, The Menagerie and The Traveling Willburys. During these raids Infernal Behemoth Volt had proved himself one of the fiercest soldiers, taking out factions single handedly in some cases.
The Axis and SoD had met with resistance, the SoD seeing their stronghold attacked and destroyed by the CotR. The largest force of resistance however came in the form of Invisible Danger. As more axis moved into Harper and new allies were found in other evil factions, fierce battles were raged with the ID that saw them drawing support from Acta, CDF and NRA nutjobs. The SoD and other axis factions the Undeadites, Vault, Lords of the Underverse and Decepticons along with support from evil's The Scourge exchanged repeated assaults with the Danger that saw both raids repelled standards retrived and strongholds destroyed on both sides ...the SoD stronghold fell twice to the ID during this time. The turf war culminiated with the most recent destruction of the ID hold by an axis force and the ID's subsequent relocation to Paradise. A good time was had by all. We 're pretty sure we have not seen the last of the Danger warriors.
The faction is currently continuing to develop, erecting the latest version of the hulking pyramid over a warehouse on Harper and next door to a factory, pleasing the crafting portion of the SoD. We've begun to open trade routes with other factions, our membership continues to master new skills and solidify our presence in both the Axis of Evil and the Nexus as a whole. The honor and the might of the SoD continues to grow. (well sometimes the honor shrinks ... but we had to do something to attempt to keep the RRF off our back till this karma/honor thing gets worked out)
Oh... after Osiris tagged along with the Pirates of R'lyeh to claim a series of axis standards from the Divine Slayers... The Divine Slayers and some tag a longs raided the SoD on the 18th. .....let the games continue.
October 19th 2006 - December 4th
In the beginning of this period, SoD started to grow in numbers and power. Our newly developed pyramid next to the factory gave us what we wanted - a nice base for preparing operations. Axis grew as well, we expanded our borders and took over the whole Harper island. We opened the Axis for smaller evil factions, who wanted to come along. We ruled the island, and despite some raids here and there, we were confident. After some weeks, we met a new threat. While as a result of repeated assaults from angelic factions some of the major Axis factions were homeless currently, the Alliance of St. Germaine decided to move in Harper, occupying the middle of Axis territory. We were hesitating. They were strong and better organized, but it seemed that with combined strength we could drive them out from our home. However, soon they approached one of the leaders of The Decepticons and offered non-agression pact to the Axis. We started discussions, what to do. Chasing them out could be the best, but some of us thought that if we allow them to stay, they will give us more opportunity to hunt in the streets - something, which we lacked after chasing out almost all non-allied factions from Harper. But while we were discussing, under the cover our former enemy, the Invisible Danger set camp on Harper again, and started assaults on Axis factions. Though we agreed on a non-agression pact that time with AoSG, several members of them helped ID in the raids - which was a rude ignoration of the pact in our eyes. It was a heroic war. We fought several battles, shoulder by shoulder with main Axis factions and our ally, The Scourge, many times almost destroying the Invisible Danger . But after a while we had to realize, that as long as we always meet prepared and well supplied defenders during every raid, and while AoSG clearly supports the ID ignoring the non-agression pact we agreed on, we can hardly win. Axis was too disorganized, grew too big in numbers, we lacked the coordination which could led us to victory. After a grand angelic assault against our lines from several bigger good factions, we accepted the fact, that we are loosing Harper - at least for some time - and we need some rest to rebuild. Our casualties grew too fast, our members were leaving. One of the Axis factions, The Vault even disbanded. We, the SoD, decided to leave Harper and start our own campaign to regain strength and moral, just like several other member factions.
After the retreat, it was time for SoD to go alone and show its real strength!
[edit] The SOD was once a proud member of the Harper Axis of Evil
And we never forget...
