Spells are magical abilities that can be utilized by classes with the Cast Spell skill. Casting spells expend Magic Points and cost Character Points to commit to memory. The strength of different spells varies widely, as do their effects - casting a "Fire Dart" spell might do a small amount of damage to one target, while casting a "Fire Storm" would do a higher amount of damage to multiple targets.
To access your spells, open the Spells pane on the Interface. Select the desired spell to cast and then, if necessary, select the target character or location to cast it on. To cast from memory, click "Cast". To cast from a scroll, click "Cast from Scroll".
[edit] Scrolls
Parchments with spells recorded on them can be found in certain locations, such as the Vaults of Enlightenment. It is also possible to find such parchments when reading books. The scrolls do not have any weight and it is possible to carry multiple copies of the same spell.
[edit] Cast from Scroll
Characters with the Cast Spell skill can cast from scrolls for a certain amount of Magic Points. Casting from a scroll will cause the scroll to be consumed in the process. The cost of casting from a scroll is 1 MP more than the spell would cost if it was cast from memory.
Sorcerers with the Transcribe Spell skill can greatly reduce the MP cost of casting from a scroll they have transcribed. However, it requires them to have learned the spell in order to do so.
[edit] Commit to Memory
Learning a spell requires a certain amount of Character Points and consumes the scroll in the process. Once a spell has been learned, the character can cast the spell without the aid of a scroll, provided that they have enough Magic Points to cast it.
To learn a spell, a character must open their Inventory and click the "Learn" button corresponding to the scroll they wish to memorize. If they do not have enough Character Points or if there are Tier restrictions, this option will be unavailable. It is not possible to learn the same spell more than once. When a spell is committed to memory it cannot be unlearned.
