[edit] Now that Nexus War is Over...
Might it be a good idea to change the is in "Nexus War is a browser-based..." to a was? --The Void 03:17, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Pending Changes
Pending changes can be found here.(Straylight, this provides an easy way to reach the Pending Changes page, especially if you keep forgetting what it's called).
[edit] Cults
Can someone make a nice newbie friendly Cults link under "Player Information"?
- There isn't one yet, so such a link wouldn't be of much use.--Jorm 15:58, 14 April 2008 (CDT)
- I unfortunately don't know how to wiki very well, otherwise I'd make one. Can't a page be made with http://wiki.nexuswar.com/index.php/Category:Deities listed in a friendlier manner? --Zizanie13 21:30, 14 April 2008 (CDT)
- How do you propose the be listed friendlier? As the maker, I obviously understand it, but I don't see how it could be confusing. --Peterbluer 18:27, 28 April 2008 (CDT)
- Re-requesting a link to Cults under Main Page's "Player Information". It's a shiny new part of the game but there's nothing on the front page about it. --Geht 12:12, 3 July 2008 (CDT)

[edit] Add Portals to Geography List?
I find that I often come looking for portal information. I'm sure that means others do too. Is it possible to stick Portals in the Geography list? -- Seeker 18:32, 8/26/06 (MST)
I would also like to see this. I find it would be very useful for upper level players say for instance that they respawned in Vahalla instead of thier homeland.--Doggie 23:40, 28 July 2007 (CDT)
[edit] Add Purgatorio to Geography List?
Now that Purgatorio has been implemented, why not add it to the Geography list, like Paradise, Stygia, and Valhalla? -Laserlight 24 July 2006
- Added. Thanks for reminding. --Brizth 03:39, 24 July 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Add Latest News Update?
Maybe Im just crazy, or maybe I just think its a good idea. I figure that we should put a latest news update on the main page, something like the UD wiki has. I figure its a pretty good Idea, and if people havent checked the site yet, or just prefer to discuss the newer news, then they can. All in favor? Ralphwiggum June 05, 2006, 19:01 (EST)
- Hmm. The problem is that NW doesn't have news in the sense UD has them. Instead Jorm continously updates PendingChanges and, after updates, Changelog. As far as I know only thing that changes on the main Nexus War page is version number. So, I really don't know what to put on the main page. --Brizth 18:38, 5 June 2006 (CDT)
- It wouldnt be that hard though. I like the fact that UD puts such straightforward changes, but I figure if you do it right and look at everything new, you COULD make the news up on the front page. Eh, Ill see what others think. Maybe its just a stupid Idea. -ralphwiggum 14:12 (EST), 06/06/06
- Maybe from one of the newspaper articles? But as I see it, this wiki is designed as a character/background information database, not to pass itself off as a "really exists in Nexus War!" thing, as it were. Chriswizard 19:24, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
[edit] CP Matrix
I worked out a bit of handy info for players. It would fit under the guide section. Perhaps there is somewhere it can be linked from for Player info? CP Matrix --Galvatron 05:33, 27 July 2006 (CDT)
- This is a player guide for specific builds and assumes specific goals. That's not what goes on the front page. It needs to be far more general.--Jorm 13:30, 27 July 2006 (CDT)
- And it is somewhat lacking in content, like, um, all good and neutral classes. Plus the formatting and overall look of the page could be improved. --Brizth 14:17, 27 July 2006 (CDT)
- A man can only do so much. Evil is what I've started on. Feel free to owrk on your own Good and Neut guides. It doesn't need to be linked from the main page. Any page that is a FAQ type list would be helpful, because I think a lot of players would find this useful in their aims, to stop them buying things they don't need. But whatever. --Galvatron 08:41, 28 July 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Nexus War Utilities
I threw together something I had been looking for, namely a list of known NW Utilities, I found it in a thread on the forums, but I thought the wiki would be a more appropriate place, just wondering where to put the entry point, since I don't want to smear it on the front page(not that I could).
Any suggestions? --Lottuk 06:49, 28 July 2006 (CDT)
- I think this is a great idea.--Jorm 12:31, 28 July 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Cleaning up the Main Page and Possible Redesign
I've been looking at the Main Page a bit (as so many wiki users do), and my personal thoughts are that it's starting to get a might crowded with the number of links that the Main Page connects to. I thought at this juncture that it might be worth looking at the Main Page with a critical eye, and see how we can possibly consolidate links on the page, and possibly even work on a minor redesign of the page.
Don't get me wrong - the Main Page is quite functional as it is, and gets the job done for the vast majority of users. I'm just wondering if we can try and look at the page and see what does need changing. I have my own thoughts, and I'll post them up in a day or so once I've figured them out properly, but I'd like to hear what others have to say about the Main Page in the meantime. Any takers? -- Odd Starter A 07:11, 26 September 2006 (CDT)
- I'm all for it; I was thinking the same thing myself last night when I added the FAQ link. I've been looking into even making a "nw" skin, but it's a bit more tie-consuming/difficult than I have time to spend on it now.--Jorm 12:31, 26 September 2006 (CDT)
Alright. Looking at what links we might be able to do away with:
- Nexus War
- New Player Guide
- Nexus for Newbies
- Tips
Do we need all three of these on the Main Page? We should pick one as the primary document, keep that document on the Main Page, then link the rest of them from the primary document.
Also, I think the links could use some rearrangement - the Forum link should be right near the top, as should the IRC instructions link.
- Player Information
- Aspects (not sure this is 100% "need to know" info)
- Morality and Alignment (At least one of these, if not both. If we're keeping Class, may not need either)
- Items (My rationale being that if people need to know about a given item, they're far more likely to type the item into the Go box)
- Infusion (It's of limited value to most users)
- Barricades (I dunno - how important is information about how Barricades work?)
- Glossary (Same rationale as Items)
- Geography
- Locations (Same rationale as Items)
- Saint Germaine Neighborhoods (This info's pretty much on Valhalla isn't it? It should be)
- REDRUM
- Mr. Shooty's FAQ (It's pretty outdated)
- Organization Discussion (Was useful at the beginning of the wiki's life, but I can't say that it's used enough to warrant inclusion on the Main Page)
As for redesign... There are a few ways this can go. One is to expand the introduction, and throw all the links on the right in a big links box. Another is to keep the basic layout, and just put each list in a separate box (making it look quite similar to UDWiki's Main Page, but I'd prefer to stay away from that layout if possible).
Other than that... Because the wiki isn't the focus of community that UDWiki is, there's a lot of sparseness on the page. I'd love to have some sort of showcase content on the page somewhere, but then we don't know what sort of content would be appropriate (Showcasing Factions would be horrifically drama-laden, Showcasing Skills/Spells would be... iffy, since most Skills/Spells don't have a lot of content to showcase). Maybe once the Donation thing kicks off, having Unique Location showcases might be interesting, but that's a future thing, really.
Any other thoughts? -- Odd Starter A 06:23, 27 September 2006 (CDT)
- Hmm. Let's see. Having all those three guides seems unnecessary, I agree. And people will probably write more guides (like Sorcerer Guide) so having a single page for all guides would probably be a good idea.
- For the "Player Information" lot I think glossary and items are the most useful (of those you suggested for removal), and I think they should be kept. In my opinion Classes, Spells, Skills and Items form the basic information that probably many people refer to.
- As for the locations... I think the current system is quite a mess and would need a major rebuild/reorganisation.
- I would like to keep the Organization Discussion somewhere on the main page, as it's kind of "gateway" to other discussions (Template & Fiction). Mr. Shooty's FAQ should be linked from whatever Guides page that might be created, same as other guides.
- I don't know how any kind of showcase would work, as we would probably run out of content quite fast. Of course some content derived from in-game activity would avoid that problem, but I can already see the drama-wars. --Brizth T A 08:56, 27 September 2006 (CDT)
- Perhaps, instead of removing NexusWiki:Organization Discussion, we should instead set up a gateway page to all the various discussions and link to that? Something like NexusWiki:Wiki Discussions? Might be easier, overall. -- Odd Starter A
- Sounds good. It could also include links to Category:Templates and all the editing help pages. Other thing that came to my mind was the location of Badges and Leaderboards. They are not really linked from anything, except from middle of some guides. While badges don't necessary need any other links, I feel the leaderboards could do with exposure. --Brizth T A 03:32, 28 September 2006 (CDT)
- I was introducing a friend to the game yesterday and he was very turned-off by front page of the wiki. Before he even got into reading about the game mechanics, he got all sorts of "don't zerg" and "don't cheat". He recommended that the front page be rearrainged so you get excited about the game before the "rules" are spelled out. He finally started to feel better about the possibility of playing, but only because I was there to encourage him and explain why the rules are set up that way and how good the community is because of the rules. All we need to do is reorder the front page. Please. It is likely scaring off other potential players.--Bugblatterbeast 14:56, 3 July 2008 (CDT)
[edit] Badges
Should Badges be accessible from the main page? If so, someone please add it when they get a spare moment. –Xoid 23:14, 23 December 2006 (CST)
- It never was accessible before, and I don't recall any burning need for it to have such visibility. It's quite accessible from the Go box if anyone desperately needs it. -- Odd Starter A 00:33, 24 December 2006 (CST)
[edit] Random Page
Is there any reason why Special:Random is not a sidebar navigation item?--Leper Porridge 11:08, 13 February 2007 (CST)
- It isn't necessary and it's just used by dumbasses as a tool for quick vandalism.--Jorm 12:38, 13 February 2007 (CST)
- Well I am neither a dumbass nor a vandal, I simply enjoy hopping around sometimes and randomly browsing. Oh well. --Leper Porridge 16:21, 13 February 2007 (CST)
[edit] IRC Guide
Would it be possible to add the IRC Guide to the main page? It is currently not very visible (The Guide Itself)--Fjorn 18:01, 13 April 2008 (CDT)
- Done.--Jorm 16:00, 14 April 2008 (CDT)
[edit] The three new planes
I think it would be a good idea to add links to their wiki pages here with the other planes wikipage links. Just asking permission before doing a front page edit and all. -- ramby 21:35, 4 May 2008 (CDT)
- Good idea. Added. --Brizth 01:27, 5 May 2008 (CDT)
[edit] Outdated pre-straylight info
I think until all of those pages with outdated pre-straylight info get fixed, some kind of warning might be in order. Maybe a notice on the main page in hopes that someone hunts it all down and updates it? I just fixed Idle after a new player made a suggestion based on the info there saying characters were auto-kicked on idle - A mechanic that changed with straylight. KI know that Interface is half finished, and there are various images here and there on some skill pages that could use fixing. Its a pretty tedious task, finding them all, but its kind of important. --Teksura 01:50, 12 June 2008 (CDT)
[edit] Cult Link on Main Page
Could we get a link to the Cult page on the front page? Metnik 11:52, 23 October 2008 (CDT)
