This rocks. But I'd pass up some of the honor points for a trophy on the SH wall. --Dan 07:36, 4 November 2006 (CST)
Presumably this has been discussed elsewhere (Nexus forum, etc.), but I am curious what will be the zerg-flag policy regarding this beastie as it moves about. Will it be something akin to a *moving* SH ward, so that alts successively attacking it within a shemp time will trip the flag even if it has moved? -- Nwfanboy 11:10, 6 November 2006 (CST)
One question- Does it have a soak? I know there' isn't one stated there, but I was just wondering if there hadn't been a space in the Pet box for it. If it does, it really is epic! Lando James 11:55, 9 November 2006 (CST)
No soak. It looks as strong as shit... Right now I'm going insane laughing at myself and laughing at those numbers.--Jack Foster 16:58, 30 November 2006 (CST)
I'm just curious, does ANYONE who took part in the dragon slaying get credit, or only those from the faction who hurt it the most? - Zizanie13 17:48, 4 December 2006 (CST)
Looks like someone finally killed it... Um... 55 times? Glitch?--Craer 17:11, 20 January 2007 (CST)
- It's a known glitch. I WAS THERE XD. --Aeneas 17:54, 20 January 2007 (PST)
Is the Nexal AoE damage also unsoakable? It appeared to be during the battle. Given our soak after Dragon Fear, no-one should have taken more than 7 damage - yet I and others took up to 16. Ragwortshire 04:21, 21 January 2007 (CST)
RRF raid unsuccessful because of hilariously overkill buff, 80K hp http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1978/wtfdragons5ln.jpg here is a screen before everyone died not by me - John Wilcox
I got a mention! Woo! As an aside, I got attacked by the dragon a total of 42 times before the actual hunt. With the -10 soak, and a 35 (pre-Fear) Real Soak, I still took 15 Nexal from the Dragon's stomps - he's a tough bugger--HVLD 18:26, 21 January 2007 (CST)
[edit] Hunts
[edit] 20th January 2007
[edit] Preparation
36 hours in advance, fighters of all moralities and alliances started arriving at the DOG stronghold in possibly the biggest organized staging that the nexus has ever seen. At 3 strategic times, the DOG ward was dropped just long enough for the combatants to enter. It was an unusual scene; over a hundred demons, mortals and angels all united towards one cause. Every few hours, a report would arrive tracking the dragon as it lumbered unanticipatedly across the plains of Stygia. As we got close to go time, the hunters assembled in IRC, watching reports from Juliette and the other trackers who were now shadowing the dragon's every movement, a dangerous job indeed because at any moment it could step into the trackers' square. At 5 minutes to go, the leaders sent out final instructions.
[edit] The Hunt
At 2300 GMT, the hunters converged on the stagin area (45,8). Simultanously, HVLD (one of the trackers) braved the dragon alone, pinning him down to prevent him wandering into the staging area. Everyone was tense. At 2305, the order was given to attack, and around 120 fighters flooded towards the dragon.
[edit] What happened next?
Almost before the dragon realized what was happening, it was being attacked by potentially the largest fighting force the Nexus has ever seen. In under 5 minutes, the mighty beast had been slain! However, his death was veiled in chaos. In a bizarre bug, the dragon was defeated around 55 times, granting huge amounts of experience and CP. A level 5 mortal who had tagged along on the hunt was among those who maxed out! Although amanuensis was unchallenged as the Dragon's Bane, many people were awarded the Dragon Slayer badge. Jorm brought the server down for a rollback, and fortunately was able to solve the problem, showing his infinite grace by allowing the hunters to retain their badges and rightful CP.
[edit] Party!
As a result of the rollback, the hunters suddenly found themselves in the DOG stronghold (except for HVLD and the trackers, who were in various stages of death across the Stygian planes). The truce was immediately extended for 24 hours in recognition of the historic achievement.
[edit] Thoughts for next time
- 120 fighters is probably a bit overkill
- The enhanced interface seems to work better than the legacy interface for this kind of combat
- The dragon wont move into an adjacent square to chase trackers
- The dragon doesn't run when it gets close to 0 health
