[edit] Faction Overview

The Divine Slayers is a Good-aligned, Open faction. Our members adhere to a Code of Honor and it is our Code that sets us apart from other Nexus factions.

[edit] Code of Honor

As Slayers, we vow to:

  • Declare war on new enemies before raiding their stronghold.
  • Refrain from provoking non-enemy factions that are smaller than Slayers in membership.
  • Never retreat from enemy strongholds until they are destroyed.
  • Do not attack an enemy stronghold repeatedly unless provoked in like manner.
  • Avenge insults to the faction’s honor.
  • Protect visitors to the neighbouring Vault of Enlightenment, never killing allied or non-aligned there unless they are demons or attacking other visitors.

Bannable Behaviour

To maintain our honorable reputation, the Slayers do not tolerate the following behaviors:

[edit] Faction Achievements

  • 3rd highest Karma
  • 3rd largest membership
  • Part of the first hunting force to take down the Dragon in Stygia
  • Part of the first hunting force to take down the Iron Juggernaut in Paradise
  • Second faction to solo hunt the fell troll Harzath in the Witch's Waste of Purgatorio^

(As of 29 October, 2008)

^To give credit where credit is due, Balance beat us to the deed by a couple of days.

[edit] Earning a Promotion

While most Nexus factions have "open safe" policies, meaning they give new members safe access simply for signing up at their forum, the Slayers require that all members demonstrate their commitment to the faction, as well. Upon demonstrating their commitment, Slayers are promoted to the rank of the Slayer Veteran whereupon they receive access to possibly the best stocked safe in the Nexus. Slayers who demonstrate outstanding service and contributions over the long term may be promoted to Elite status and perhaps into the Command.

Examples of Contributions

  • Participating in Slayers raids
  • Actively defending the stronghold from enemy raids.
  • Searching for rare components or magical items and handing them to the Resource Commander.
  • Infusing Slayer controlled territory per the direction of the Infusion Commander.
  • Crafting or repairing weapons and armor.
  • Brewing potions.
  • Having fun and making life fun for your factionmates in the stronghold!

  • On 26 May, the Slayers assaulted the TSO stronghold and razed it to the ground as part of phase 2 of the Slayer Elite quest.
  • June 2007
  • The Shining Ones began a prolonged assault against the Slayer Stronghold, launching six raids in two days. The Slayers maintained a strong defence and managed to keep their standard. A retaliation raid was launched against TSO, during which the Pirates of R'Lyeh attacked the Slayer Stronghold with a large team. With the help of allies the attack was beaten off. The Big Blob of Evil followed up the previous assaults with another attack from OS and finally an attack from the Scourge destroyed the Slayer stronghold. The Slayers attacked the Scourge stronghold with allies within 24 hours and retrieved the DS standard.
  • On 10 Jun, the Slayers joined allies to destroy the OS stronghold and on 13 Jun TSO met the same fate with DS taking the standard. On 16 Jun, Scourge was razed to the ground.
  • On 17 Jun, over a period of 8 hours, the Slayers came under attack from big raids teams from OS, then the Pirates 2 hours later, and TSO 6 hours later. The Slayers defended valiantly against the first two attacks and repelled them with the help of allies. The TSO raid, however, succeeded in destroying the Slayer stronghold. The Slayers retaliated against TSO with the help of allies within 24 hours and retrieve the Slayer flag and inflicted grievous damage to TSO.
  • On 19 Jun, the Scourge raided the Slayer stronghold and destroyed it. Slayers strike back within 24 hours and razed the Scourge stronghold. Later in the day, TSO, Pirates and the Scourge joined forces to retrieve the Scourge flag.
  • On 20 Jun, Slayers join some allies in raiding the OS stronghold. The small raid team overcame the massive OS ward and managed to inflict roughly 3 casualties for every raider lost.
  • On 25 Jun, Slayers entered into an alliance with Magi Anonymous.
  • On 26 Jun, Slayers were invited by MA to join a raid on OS. After a fierce battle against many active defenders, OS revoked their stronghold.
  • On 29 Jun, TSO raided the Slayer stronghold. Minutes later, 13 TSO raiders lay dead while the Slayers suffered 3 casualties.
  • July 2007
  • On 12 Jul, Slayers raided the Pirates to celebrate the maxing out of darkskye. It so happened that another Slayer, Lax, maxed out as well. We did not raze the Pirates stronghold, but left over 200 Pirates dead.

...

  • March 2008
  • On 1 Mar, Slayers raided the Pirates and left 200+ pirates dead. Flag was not captured.
  • On 5 Mar, Slayers capped the Oblivion Squadron (OS) flag, encountering minimal resistance.
  • 6 hours after the raid, OS attempted a flag recap but was repelled by the Slayers. The stronghold ward was not breached.
  • On 8 Mar, Slayers repelled a raid by Pirates but the OS flag was recaptured.
  • On 10 Mar, Slayers fell upon the Demons Next Door (DND) and finding them weakened from earlier attacks, made short work of the remaining defenders. Flag captured.
  • On 12 Mar, Slayers attacked the TSO stronghold and after a stimulating battle against a number of TSO actives and defenders from Pax Marrakun, captured the enemy flag.
  • On 15 Mar, around 20 Slayers stormed the Pirate ship on 15 Mar but were foiled by the creation of a black hole moments into the raid. The All your Souls flag was retrieved by the Slayers.
  • Just hours later, the Slayers repulsed a raid from Demons Next Door with minimal casualties. The DND flag was recaptured.
  • On 16 Mar, ACROSS attacked the Slayer stronghold and retrieved and TSO flag. The Slayers held on to their flag despite taking heavy losses.
  • On 19 Mar, DS retaliated against ACROSS and faced a tough battle against actives. After raising wards against evil all round the ACROSS stronghold and breaking down their ward a second time, the Slayers triumphed.
  • On 20 Mar, ACROSS came and retrieved their flag. No casualties were suffered and all raiders were killed, even a stray Pirate who came along later.
  • On 23 Mar, the Slayers struck OS. Once again, minimal resistance was faced and the flag was captured.
  • 6 hours later, 10 OS raiders succeeded in recapturing their flag but at the cost of their lives. No Slayers were lost.
  • On 25 and 26 Mar, valiant Slayer defenders withstood OS raids on back-to-back nights.
  • On 26 Mar, DS agreed to a truce with OS.
  • On 30 Mar, DS raided TSO in Marrakun and brought them down to their last supersoaker before their allies and respawning colleagues returned to save their stronghold.
  • April 2008
  • On 4 Apr, DS paid a visit to the tea-loving Demons next Door and were surprised by the friendly reception. Unable to stomach more tea, Slayers were forced to return home without the DND standard.
  • On 11 Apr, in a swift raid, DS raiders descended upon the ACROSS stronghold and cleaned house.
  • Later that day, DND repaid our visit to them and proceeded to sell us the idea of moving to a new location with higher real estate value. Our pets loved the idea and suffocated the guests with their enthusiasm.
  • On 15 Apr, the Slayers knocked down the Pirates ward and 101-pet shield to collect a ragged and musty skull and crossbones. When the Slayers departed, they left 230 pirate corpses and a sunken ship behind.
  • Later that day, the Pirates boarded the Slayers' front porch for a flag grab, but after falling to pets, actives, and a bit of lag, they recruited ACROSS to re-open the ward and a Nordic Avenger slipped in invisibly to spirit away the black flags.
  • On 18 Apr, indignant Slayers knocked down the doors of Odin Hall to demand the return of the pirate flag from Loki (I meant Odin). Finding that the Avengers have used the black cloth to replace their own flag, Slayers departed with the Avenger flag.
  • On 26 Apr, Straylight arrived!
  • On 27 Apr and 28 Apr, Slayers successfully defended their stronghold and newly constructed flag ward against attacks from the Scourge and Oblivion Squadron.
  • On 27 Apr, in the first raid post Straylight, a small Slayers raid team were whiskers away from cracking the ward shield of the Shining Ones.
  • May 2008
  • On 3 May, the Slayers visited The Scourge to liberate the flags of two allies. The Scourge, however, were able to hang onto their own flag... at least for now.
  • On 5 May, 25 Shining Ones stormed our fortress and 18 of them met their end inside and 7 outside. Another great Slayer defense, even in the face of spirited infusion staining by the demons at our stronghold.
  • On 9 May, the Slayers collected another Oblivion Squadron flag.
  • Later that day, the Iron Juggernaut came to our aid and ravaged the OS raid/recap party as they ward bashed.
  • On 17 May, the Divine Slayers joined forces with our allies The Faithful and Acta Sanctorum to slay the fell Iron Juggernaut. The Slayers dealt the most damage and thereby earned 50 honor points, while Slayer an Enigma wrapped in a Riddle did the most damage and earned the Wrath of Stygian Iron badge. The hunting party then celebrated the victory by raiding The Scourge and taking the flag without area of effect (AoE) attacks, with Acta taking the honors this time.
  • In the later part of May, the Slayers were successful in their raids on ACROSS and the Dark Oppressors Guild. However, they were not able to capture the flag of the Shining Ones after a determined defense from TSO, Knights of Arcadia, and Balance.
  • June 2008
  • On 7 Jun, the Slayers sent 107 of Oblivion Squadron's finest to the void and captured their flag without losing a single raider. It appeared to be a well-timed raid that caught the entire faction napping.
  • On 13 Jun, Demons Next Door raided and attempted to philosophize the Slayers to death. They bored 40 of us to death with their existential diatribes, but we held the day.
  • On 26 Jun, the Slayers captured the flag from The Shining Ones' lair.
  • Shortly thereafter, the clocktower was cleared for the first time since before Straylight arrived and Gorilla-Man became Defense (or as he says, "Defence") Commander. That's about four months if you're keeping score! With many Slayers out celebrating a successful raid on the TSO, the Scourge and Grinning Souls pounced on the opportunity for a joint raid and with but a single emote (well done, Morthalius) captured our flag. Enjoy the victory, demons, for we shall ensure it is a brief one.
  • July 2008
  • On 10 Jul, a meager wave of The Scourge crashed upon the beach of Slayer defense and melted away. By the way, we're not becoming less active as a faction, just becoming a bit negligent maintaining our news bulletins.
  • On 23 Jul, with the Pirates of R'yleh entrenched just beyond a Stygian portal into Paradise, the Good factions have banded together to take the fight into the dreary slums of hell. In recent days, the Slayers joined several raiding parties against the largest faction in the Nexus, failing to exterminate the Dark Oppressor heavy enemy from its lair. Tonight, however, the forces of Good prevailed by flagshielding the Pirates as three of their active DOs sat on their haunches and soaked. The Pirate flag hangs from the rafters of our steadfast allies in Acta, and the Pirate ship docks not at the gates of Paradise this night.
  • August 2008
  • On 6 Aug, we reclaimed four allied flags from a Stygian Pirate ship.
  • On 7 Aug, we repelled a raiding from The Scourge, or was it TSO? Sigh. These Big Evil factions are all starting to look the same.
  • In the last week of August, Lord Hinjo and the Slayer Raiders hit TSO and didn’t get the flag, but grabbed an allied flag and Ur’iel maxed out. The real fun came when we demolished Demon's Next Door so easily we took a side trip to a Pirate ship and rescued some allied flags. Sure, the Pirates took us down later in the week, but we reclaimed our flag the next day. At week's end, we paid Across a visit and came home with their flag and returned one to any ally.
  • September 2008
  • On 3 Sept, Slayers claimed The Scourge flag and hoisted it alongside Across flag that's been flying there for a week. We also returned to flags belonging to our allies for their rightful owners.
  • On 6 Sept, a certain pirate ship was sent to the murky depth of the Stygian void by a mighty, mighty Divine Slayer raid team. The team also found a soiled AoSG flag, had it pressed and cleaned, and returned it to its rightful owner.
  • On 14 Sept, the Slayers raided TSO. Fortunately, only half the TSO faction was active at the moment we arrived. If the other half had been active we might have even gotten off an emote. We grabbed some allied flags, but the overall result was, well, predictable given the circumstances.
  • On 20 Sept, the Slayers had a Troll Bone Bonfire in the OS stronghold. First, we hunted down the fell troll Harzath and returned it to the sands of the Witch's Waste from which it spawns. Then, we hauled its bones down to the OS stronghold and, after clearing out the residents, burned the troll bones as we danced and partied into the night. Like every day, it was another good day to be a Slayer. (If anyone's keeping track, that's 70 Honor right there--50+20. Also, Enigma wrapped in a riddle now has most damage dealt badges from both a Juggernaut and a Harzath hunt. That's gotta be a first!)
  • October 2008
  • On 2 Oct, the Slayers paid a visit to Stygia and relieved an allied flag from The Scourge, but couldn't quite tip the last few DOs to claim a new standard. And darned that Zilly Bavos anyway.
  • On 4 Oct, the Slayers attempted to solo the Iron Juggernaut. Let's just say that the Juggy evened the score.
  • On 11 Oct, the Slayers raided somebody while yours truly slept. I don't see any new flags hanging from the rafter though.
  • On 13 Oct, the Slayers went back down and seized that Scourge flag that had been averting us.
  • On 17 Oct, Slayer raiders added a flag from ACROSS to our collection.
  • On 18 Oct, a weary raid crew dropped in for some tea with the Demons Next Door. We left behind several dozen witty emotes, and, sadly, the DND flag. Darned those soaky DOs.
  • On 22 Oct, The Scourge, ACROSS, and TSO each paid an uninvited visit to the Slayer fortress within 24 hours of each other. Each assault was deflected by an ever-shrinking band of proud, living Slayers. The last defense was down to a few survivors, but the Slayers carried the bloody battlefield on this day.
  • On 25 Oct, the Slayers sent a small raid team on a long overdue visit to TSO, capturing their flag and getting some depressing economics reportage from one Lou Dobbs, a mortal so full of fire and brimstone we pronounced him honorary Slayer for a day.
  • On 29 Oct, the Slayers reclaimed The Faithful's flag from a certain pirate ship spotted listing to the Starboard just off the coast of Paradise Island. Later in the day, TSO recovered their flag, but couldn't fight through the last 20 Slayers to claim ours.
