[edit] English Magic
English magic is founded upon the art of the Aureate magicians, such as Ralph Stokesy and Martin Pale. Many argue that English magic is truly attributed to John Uskglass, king of Northern England, and his upbringing in Faerie. Gilbert Norrell, however, strongly refutes such arguments, stating that both the Raven King and Faerie are more harmful to English magic than helpful. What is certain, however, is that English magic springs from the land. Tree speaks to stone; stone speaks to water. The Friends of English magic, therefore, divorce themselves from those claiming to have studied death magics - for as all know, such things are not lightly meddled with, and in no instances have such acts been undertaken without the aid of Faerie help. The remove from the connection to the land demonstrated by certain "wizards" is equally troubling - again, the source of their powers is not easily explained unless some faerie connexion is present. Only practicioners of English Magic, commonly rendered as "Elemental" magic in the New World and the Balkan states, shall be considered safe to admit into the Society.
Those theoretical magicians studying without having achieved any works of magic, or those who are performing but their first exploratory spells, are of course to be welcomed in order for the teaching of the eminent Magicians Strange and Norrell to better guide their blossoming skill into safe, practical English "Elemental" magic.

The Friends of English Magic are currently residing in Valhalla, in the suburb of Northpoint, close to the Sea.
[edit] Faction Titles
- Cinq Dragowne
- Leader. Named after members of the highest magical court, that of John Uskglass, the Raven King of Northern England. The Cinq Dragownes was the highest court at which defendants could be tried for magical crimes.
- Petty Dragowne
- Lieutenant. Named after the court in Southern England, set up in the image of the Northern court, following essentially the same forms though without either the legitimacy or insight provided by Uskglass or his advisors.
- Practical Magician
- Sergeant. A magician capable of performing some degree of magic.
- Theoretical Magician
- Soldier. A magician who has limited their studies to the theory and history of magic, incapable or unwilling to perform practical magic.
