[edit] The Privateers of the Elder Sign
Great in number are the servants of the Outer Gods. Vile and twisted are their ways. Many serve these beings out of ignorance, and many out of greed. Whatever their motives, seemings or callings, their deeds are evil.
Azathoth. Nyarlathotep. Shub-Niggurath. Yog-Sothoth.
Few mortals know the names of these otherworldly entities, few delve into the forbidden knowledge they offer, and fewer still emerge with a sane mind once they have seen the Yellow Sign, and heard the siren call of distant Carcosa.
If you have witnessed the horror of the Outer Gods, if you have prevailed in the face of welcoming madness, we congratulate you. If a glimmer of the Elder Sign burns in your soul, and you would stand fast against the onslaught of these abominations from beyond Space and Time, the Privateers of the Elder Sign offer you their hand in friendship. These fine men and women, though few in number, are hardy in spirit. We have drawn the line of resistance, and no fanatic of the Crawling Chaos, no gibbering madman in the service of Azathoth shall cross it while we stand.
There will be setbacks.
There will even be lost battles.
But the war will be won, and humanity with rest safely once more.
[edit] Charter
Our calling is a simple one. There are many servants of the Outer Gods, but a few of them may yet be saved from madness and damnation. It is our task to carry word to these souls, by steel and gunpowder, feathered arrow and arcane incantation.
Bring no harm to the innocent. For although they may be lacking in spirit and conviction, to injure them senselessly drives that soul towards the darkness. Only those who have turned willingly and wittingly to the Outer Gods for worship and service shall come to know the wrath of our conviction.
Protect the Sign, and your fellow privateers.
Be outspoken, for often a word will prevail over the sharpest of blades.
[edit] Provisions
Though our number may be small, the privateers come from all walks of life. With us you will find few paths untrodden, be they alchemy, blacksmithing or arcane studies.
Your helping hand will be welcome, for the assaults on the Outer Gods' lackeys is arduous and requires much in the form of resources - from fresh armaments to spells and concoctions.
