"One pirate could take no more of living inland. Every night, he heard the call of the briney, the waves whispering his name.
He knew striking out alone to his beloved sea would be difficult, and take him far away from all the comforts he had become used to. Life on an oil rig would be spartan, even with a small stronghold possible, thanks to his magical powers. The nearest dry land- still a fair swim away- would be in Hell itself. All the same, he knew just as well that he could not resist forever.
Resolved, he said his goodbyes to his crewmates and walked out, alone, into the surf...''
- from the Chronicles of the Salty Dogs
Yes indeed, we are based on an Oilrig
The Salty Dogs were created and are led by a long-term Pirate Of R'lyeh who could stand living inland no longer. The Salty Dogs were created with Water Breathing, and thus Elementalists, in mind, but if you can get to the stronghold and you're not an Angel, you're welcome.
Ranks are:
Kook: You join, you start off as a Kook.
Waverider: You show up in the stronghold and introduce yourself. You get safe access.
Ripper: Active in the faction, be it a regular on raids, a stocker of the safe, an RPer, or in other ways, you really contribute to the faction. Rippers ask not what the faction can do for them, but what they can do for the faction.
Big Kahuna: A leader. For the sake of flexibility, we have six: Mr Goodnight (the faction founder), Gruff (eats Stronghold wards like candy bars), BlackDeath (he's kinda dark and oppressive), President Ulysses S. Grant (aka 'El Presidente'), Frobozz (top-notch Infusion wrangler) and An Eyeball of G'Nak (don't ask). There may be others in the future.
Why have a Stronghold on an Oilrig?
If you'd like to be based on an oilrig, and you can get to one, we're your faction. What's that? Why would you want to be based on an oilrig? You need telling? Very well.
If you have Water Breathing as a skill, we are based effectively 2AP from a library, a hospital, a gunstore, portals to both Stygia and Paradise, 14 exploration badges, and indeed EVERYTHING ELSE that's on the shoreline of St Germaine.
In the meantime, our stronghold has a moat. Yours doesn't, does it? No. How sad for you.
If you don't have Water Breathing, you're still only 7 squares from a portal to the new, improved Stygia, and the oilrigs are popular as a place to spend the night. People think they're safe there... bwahahaha! Well, they used to, anyway. We're a bit better known, now.
Right, yes, an Oilrig. Now what?
Nexus War 1.4 has been good to us. We're having no trouble maintaining full faction bonuses, and, in order to avoid a flood of landlubbers who want +3 damage, we've Closed the faction.
Want an invite? Post here
... or use the in-game link. Please note, though, if you're just after the bonuses, we're unlikely to be keen.
The stronghold has been pretty much fully upgraded. We now have a Medbay (great for Sorceror's Might addicts and the Healers who love them), a Forge, and a Gunsmithing Table, too. More importantly, we have a koi pond and a wet bar. Oh yes.
Oh yes- how Evil are you, anyway?
Well, not all that Evil, really. We're evil like Magi Anonymous or the NRA Nutjobs are Good, ie, not very. However, you can't invite everyone to the party, and angels tend not to surf, we reckon. Wet feathers- not good. We have Good, Neutral and Evil members, and we like it that way. The sea is the thing that binds us. Morality? Whatever.
SURF'S UP!
