Tier refers to the different ranks of character classes.

At level 1, all characters start as a mortal, this is Tier 1.

At level 10, a character reaches Tier 2 and can select a different class to specialize into, such as Pariah or Sorcerer. Which exact classes are available depends on the character's morality. A character may have no more than 40 unspent cp to become a tier 2 class, if she has more than 40 unspent cp, she must spend some of it to change class.

At level 20, a character reaches tier 3 and a further class specialization becomes available, such as Advocate or Dark Oppressor. The classes available depend on which Tier 2 class was chosen. A character may have no more than 70 unspent cp to become a tier 3 class, if she has more than 70 unspent cp, she must spend some of it to change class. A character may not select a tier 3 class unless they have already selected a tier 2 class.

[edit] Identification

Characters of a certain tier can only recognize those of equal or lesser rank. The list of occupants in the location will identify those of greater rank only by the name of their class.

For example, let us suppose there is a location with Alice (a level 1 Mortal), Bob (a level 10 Pariah), and Carol (a level 20 Seraph). Alice will see "A Pariah (10)" and "A Seraph (20)". Bob will see "Alice (1)" and "A Seraph (20)". Carol will see "Alice (1)" and "Bob (10)".

It is still possible to identify these targets by using the Target Pane.

[edit] Significance

Experience Points received for combat and healing is affected by the tier and level of your character and the tier and level of your target. The amount of damage received from the Defiler's Poison and XP received from the Dark Oppressor's Agony Curse are also based on the target's tier.
