I was slightly miffed when DW took down my serious answer about the MFD, but hell, I got a lot more room to write here anyways. DW, gimme advance notice next time, k? Anyways, here it is:

The History of the Marquez Fire Department - A Serious Look

The Origins - Small Town Heroes

Back during the days of the Industrial Revolution, a small town called Malton florished. Once a small, loosely connected collection of villages, the town of Malton truly took off during the revolution with its name sake - malted beers and ales. Of course, metullurgy, steam power, factories and metal tools developed as well.

Unfortunately, the city had its fair share of problems as well. Pollution, crime, and injuries skyrocketed. In particular, fires, both started by accident and arson, endangered the citizens as well.

In response, the citizens and the local government formed the Malton Fire Department. In many cities back then, buildings were protected by insurance companies who each had their own fire brigades. These buildings were given plaques to distinguish them from others. Occasionally, rival fighters would block buildings to disallow other rivals to get in, causing greater damage to the building (thus making the company pay more.) In Malton however, all buildings were protected under the MFD, thus circumventing that problem.

From the day the MFD started, those in charge made sure that only the best of the best would be in the MFD. Routine drills and exercise combined with a strict diet ensured that all firefighters could fight perform thier duties and stay in top shape to do so. The firefighters were also supplied with some of the best technology at that time, allowing them to fight fires efficiently. For over 150 years, the MFD provided complete and absolute safety from all disasters.

July 3rd, 2005 - Armageddon

The events leading up to this date are unclear. Some blame a shadowy scientific company known as Necrotech. Others blame an explosion that accdientally released chemicals. Still others suspect that it may have been the work of terrorists. And yet others blame the government.

Whether it was none of these, some of these, or all of these combined, one thing is certain - on July 3rd, 2005, the dead had risen from their graves to devour the living.

(I'll finish this later.)
