waves - Your wiki page clearly states "If they die, I don't worry, and I won't retaliate." when refering to your characters. However I have recently found this to be un-true from IRC

  • [11:14] <jorm> someone killed jorm.
  • [11:14] <jorm> so i killed them.
Let it be forever known that jorm may or may not retaliate if you kill his characters. --Teksura 13:21, 8 August 2006 (CDT)

[edit] About Nexus War

Perhaps you could renew the screenshots of the interface on that page. --Kooks 12:12, 18 June 2008 (CDT)

Hey, how come you had to take down the images for the DC and NC? Those were cool-looking. --Jimbo Bob 00:26, 11 September 2006 (CDT)

I was unable to obtain the correct type of license for them.--Jorm 00:49, 11 September 2006 (CDT)
Aw, that sucks. Anyway, appreciate you taking the time to respond. --Jimbo Bob 16:04, 11 September 2006 (CDT)

Jorm, do you have any time in your busy schedule to install a patch to help fix this bug? It's mainly to fix Category:Skills so that the subcategories all stay on the same page, and I don't think it should adversely affect any patches we currently have on the wiki. -- Odd Starter A 19:03, 23 October 2006 (CDT)

Sure. Just point me to the patch.--Jorm 22:19, 23 October 2006 (CDT)
I believe it would be this one. -- Odd Starter A 00:12, 24 October 2006 (CDT)

Yo Harris, can I make some lists on the wiki, like death messages, transcension messages (Blahblahblah has forevermore be other class) and special mundane locations (Windmill in Paradise, bird infested place in Valhalla)? --Sherman Gill 20:24, 1 August 2007 (CDT)

Uh, do I know you?
Also, yeah, feel free to make all sorts of lists.--Jorm 23:52, 1 August 2007 (CDT)
'Aight. Cool. And does it matter whether or not I know you? --Sherman Gill 02:06, 2 August 2007 (CDT)
Nobody calls me "harris" except people I know, is all.--Jorm 12:37, 2 August 2007 (CDT)

Hey Jorm, can I take screenshots of your interface and use them on Wikipedia? --Metnik 21:29, 28 December 2007 (CST)

Feel free.--Jorm 12:20, 29 December 2007 (CST)
Done and done. Made the wikipedia article. Not great. But I'm sure others will fix it up.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexus_War --Metnik 13:48, 29 December 2007 (CST)
The wiki has apparently been deleted --Daskar 10:22, 1 April 2008 (CST)
The wiki has been created and deleted at least 5 times that I know about. I recreated it one time and they told me the information wasn't relevant to anything. Apparently they don't think a game which is slowly consuming my life is important. --Grugg 17:15, 1 April 2008 (CDT)
So why do they allow wiki pages for other games like Urban Dead??? - Great game by the way Jorm (I only started playing 17 days ago and I love it) - If you dont mind me asking what software did you use to make this game because I hope to attempt making a text based game (im currently learning HTML code and design etc...)???--Feon Kensai 04:16, 24 June 2008 (CDT)
Urban Dead has over 1 million characters. Nexus War has 7178 non idled characters. Also, here Jorm talks about what language the game is written in.--Kooks 12:38, 25 June 2008 (CDT)
Thanks you very much for the link (I missed that) - and I guess you have a good point about the number of members (29658 active members in UD is a lot more than 7178 in NW - LOL). Thanks again --Feon Kensai 19:05, 25 June 2008 (CDT)

[edit] Game Questions

So, I don't know if this has been asked before, and it's not really a pressing question, but... Why Stygia, Purgatorio, and Paradise? Why not Paradiso, while we're upholding the Dante cosmology? I rather like the Dante inspiration, but I haven't yet seen a reason for that tiny change.--Sigfrid 19:07, 9 August 2006 (CDT)

Well, it's not really from Dante so much. Stygia is originally Greek, IIRC, though Milton used it ("hence, loathed melancholy / of cerberus, and blackest midnight born, / In stygian cave forlorn"). Purgatorio is Catholic, but I took the "-io" from the Italian divine comedy. Valahalla most definately is not - it's Norse in origin.
But the correct answer to your question: it's called "paradise" because that's what it is, and it's a term that you - the players - will easily grasp. You don't need to know that the St. Germaine Islands are Valhalla (I mean, who cares, right?) and "Stygia" has a nice evil ring to it. But the real name of the good plane - Xanadu - doesn't. It might evoke memories of a bad Olivia Newton John film from the 70s in some people. The more educated may get the Samuel Taylor Coleridge reference (which is where I took it from). At any rate: it's called "paradise" because it's easy.--Jorm 19:39, 9 August 2006 (CDT)
That's what I had guessed, but then I wondered why you wouldn't call Purgatorio Purgatory. I did like the Norse concept of Valhalla juxtapositioned with it, though. I think Xanadu would have had a mysterious ring to it, though, for those who don't get the Coleridge reference.--Sigfrid 19:56, 9 August 2006 (CDT)
I had wondered where coleridge was going to come in when I saw Alph, the sacred river...--Skaramuche 21:06, 9 August 2006 (CDT)
"In Xanadu did Kublai Khan a stately pleasure-dome decree, where Alph, the sacred river ran, through caverns measureless to man, down to a sunless sea." - It's one of my favorite poems.--Jorm 21:36, 9 August 2006 (CDT)
Mmm. To each his own, then. I've never been a big Coleridge fan (with exception to the Rime of the Ancient Mariner). My favorites have always been Whitman and Donne.--Sigfrid 21:55, 9 August 2006 (CDT)
You should read Coleridge's Conversation Poems. They're excellent, much better than either of those, imho. In particular, "Thie Lime-Tree Bower My Prison" and "Frost at Midnight" are very nice.

[edit] Lexicon

I've noticed people are starting to add flavor text to skills. While this is a decent idea, I think its putting the horse before the carriage, considering no story has been written for the most part. I was wondering if we could start up a game of lexicon on the wiki here. If you've never seen one, the rules can be found here. We previously ran one which you may or may not have been aware of with moderate success over at the UD wiki. In the end there was a lot drop outs and mediocre work (not so much the quality of the works even, but the fact that people only wanted to talk about their own character and group). I was hoping we could do here what we tried to do with Kevan. Basically run a contest to write the Nexus War story line. At the end of the game you choose articles you like (if any) and incorporate them into official canon. In this version we could streamline things by eliminating rounds and not allowing people to talk about their current groups or characters. If you're interested I'd be happy to draft some rules and administrate the articles. --Zaruthustra 19:50, 2 September 2006 (CDT)

I don't have a problem with this; is there anything special that needs to be done to set it up?--Jorm 09:30, 3 September 2006 (CDT)
Not really, the wiki is well suited for this. I'll draft up a modified rule set and see what you think. --Zaruthustra 00:12, 4 September 2006 (CDT)

Ahem. As I was saying half a year ago before I became distracted, I drafted up some rules. You can find a (very) rough draft of them in my sandbox. I would like to mention that what I propose there is not really lexicon. Its similar to lexicon, and its based off lexicon, but mine is a lot more complicated and involved. Lexicon uses a reliable user base that plays for a few months, works in time segmented rounds, and tells anecdotes based on certain letters of the alphabet. My version is actually a self generating backstory that is largely free form. Since consistency needs to be monitored and the game administrated, it will take a fair amount of time. Not yours necessarily, but somebody's. The benefit of the wiki is that with many eyes, we can try to keep the need for mod supervision to a minimum. Thats a decision for you and whoever would run it though. --Zaruthustra 22:59, 1 April 2007 (CDT)

[edit] Where does "Jorm" come from?

I was wondering: where does the nickname "Jorm" come from? The only thing I could think of that would fit is the name of the midgard serpent after shortening. Alternatively, is Jorm your actual middle name?

It is, indeed, the shortening of "jormungandr."--Jorm 14:56, 30 November 2007 (CST)

[edit] Search Data

Over in the Deletions you said "...I'd probably just *give* the search data to someone if they wanted it." So I hereby request said data, provided I am allowed to publicly release said data in handy dandy spreadsheet format. Velkrin 15:38, 2 December 2007 (CST)

[edit] Permission Request

I'd like to request formal permission to use the appearance of the Enhanced Interface and website, etc in a Wikipedia article on Nexus War. I realize that there is an ongoing deletion vote, but I am trying to improve the article to a keep-able quality. I ask because of previous deletion requests concerning images such as this one. I would like to be able to use a full-size image without any problems concerning fair use, etc.

Edit: For referencing and fact-gathering purposes, I would also like to conduct an interview with you at some point.

Thank you much.

[edit] know of any open source grid php games?

Hey I was wondering if you knew of any open source templates of php grid-based games. I was thinking about creating my own game kinda like UD or NW (but a different theme) in that it has AP and is browser-based and grid-based, just for fun, but I don't really want to build EVERYTHING from the ground up. I mean, I'm just looking for something that allows one to create an account and move around. Thanks! Need info 18:39, 30 March 2008 (CDT)

Sorry. Can't help you.--Jorm 22:56, 30 March 2008 (CDT)
If you're just looking to develop a simple vid game, maybe try downloading a mudlib? It's telnet-based, not browser-based, but it's pre-built and allows you to dive straight into content building.--CaptObviousman 10:45, 1 May 2008 (CDT)
