[edit] Re: Categories and Redirects
True. I don't now the exact reason for the current system (Haven't been here that long myself), but using regular pages would seem more reasonable. And it would get rid of CategoryHack. Well, mostly anyway. It should take that much work to convert all the current category pages to regular ones. I think I'll put something together on my userspace. After few hours. --Brizth 03:27, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
- So, I see you guys as the librarians here, so if you think there is a better mechanism for ordering data, by all means, let's see it work. Be warned, though, that there are links within the game itself back to the categories in place, and these may be updated. So having a list of stuff that may 'break' the game's help system would be. . . extremely useful to me.--Jorm 03:34, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
About the main page: I don't know if there's anything to change. I would think that users mostly want to check the categories (aka. listings of skills and spells and items) when visiting the wiki. Only first time players would read about the skill system, for example. Or at least, these are my thoughts. --Brizth 17:37, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
- This reminds me of a beef I've noted in the past about the main page: there's a great deal of extraneous information; the "REDRUM" category, for instance. I'm going to start a thread in the discussion section of the main page of ways it can be made more user accessible, but that'll be in a week or so.
On another note, the Category system is indeed a bit clunky, although I think it works fairly well. Perhaps a modified form of the disambiguation pages of Wikipedia?
Say- a user clicks on "Skills"; instead of the gigantic morass of skills (which is somewhat daunting, I must admit), they are greeted with a disambiguation-like thing:
== Skills ==
Are you looking for:
Mortal Skills
Ascended (Tier 1) Skills (with a link to another disambiguation page, with the T1- Myrmidon Skills leading to its respective skills, etc.)
Tier 2 Skills
Tier 3 Skills
(end disambiguation)
the system I think would be most effective would be one of a continous, interlocking ladder of genres; like the HtH page can have a blurb at the end saying 'Classes and spells using this are: Myrmidon => Eternal Soldier and Spells: Touch
and pages such as Armor, which is a shining example of a nice menu method of tying everything together. Chriswizard 19:18, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
- Wow. I hadn't seen the Armor entry in a while. That is freakin' awesome.--Jorm 19:15, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
- Also, we should move this to organization discussion.--Jorm 19:17, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Poof
Due to your expressed degree of competence and aptitude, you have been punished with promotion to sysop. You should make an account on the forums; there is a moderator/sysop forum there for discussion of moderationer thingers. Lemme know when you have so I can add you to the group.--Jorm 00:38, 7 June 2006 (CDT)
- Damn! Knew I was working too hard! -- Odd Starter 00:39, 7 June 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Redirect Anchors
Odd Starter (do you have some sort of other nickname? OS is too much like Oblivion Squadron, a faction, and I'm far too lazy to type two words out.) - should we do some sort of campaign to remove the (defunct) anchor-redirect tags from the articles? I always put them in as a sort of mental assistance of what goes where, but it might just be contributing to excessive bandwidth usage and general bloat. Chriswizard 03:26, 7 June 2006 (CDT)
- Just call me Odd, since I've not seen to many other Odd users around...
- I think we need to approach this in two ways:
- We need to change all the redirects so that the anchor-link is just a regular link. Okay, this isn't really needed, but it might be an idea to discourage others from the idea.
- Then make sure that the actual links are changed to the correct anchors, since anchor links are fine if they're in actual links.
- I'll probably start doing this eventually, but I'm kinda busy at the moment so I'm not going to do it immediately. -- Odd Starter 03:41, 7 June 2006 (CDT)
- It sounds to me like 1 and 2 are effectively the same thing. And I'm going to try to get started on the major articles (ammunition, armor, so on) this weekend, in addition to some backlog writing. --Chriswizard 03:52, 7 June 2006 (CDT)
- What the hell. Is it just me, or are redirect anchors working now? Try it out. --Chriswizard 18:46, 10 June 2006 (CDT)
- Um, no? See Pipe for example. It should go to Improvised#Pipe. Oh and Odd, this page (yours talk) was acting weirdly, I think I fixed it though. --Brizth 18:59, 10 June 2006 (CDT)
- Yeah, you're right. Nevermind; mea culpa. --Chriswizard 19:42, 10 June 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Delete template
You might have noticed that the Image:Delete.png doesn't show on the Delete template. Now before I ask Jorm, do you have any idea for the reason? Only reason I can thing is some wiki configuration error that prevents it from resizing the image to 60px. The image resizing doesn't seem to work for other images either. --Brizth 04:46, 7 June 2006 (CDT)
- That seems to be the problem. I haven't yet tried to thumb an image yet... Hmm, let me try now:
- Okay, so thumbing doesn't instamatically make it throw a hissy fit, it's just resizing, and any resizing at that. Diagnosis: Wiki has a screwloose somewhere in it's image resizing faculty. Jorm may have disabled it for performance reasons, but this is really going to make certain things quite screwy. I say we take it to the Jorm... -- Odd Starter 05:43, 7 June 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Re. skill class boxes
Yeah, they are pretty ugly at the moment, at least if there's lots of them in one page (like Cast Spell). But I was going to fix their look anyway, or at least make them unified in size and shape. The category links don't really bring the same functionality. Some bottom-of-the-page banners style like they have on Wikipedia sounds great idea. I'll look into it later today. --Brizth 03:28, 11 July 2006 (CDT)
- Ah yes, that way. That's actually quite good idea. I was, uh, reading your message too fast and didn't get what you meant. --Brizth 04:00, 11 July 2006 (CDT)
- What do you think about User:Brizth/WIP? Category thing is still missing from that page. --Brizth 04:23, 11 July 2006 (CDT)
Hey There, I realize you are working on the class skill boxes yourself, and I appritiate the work that you have done, but the boxes as-is are not fuctional in the sense that they are unable to convey in a simple and non-misleading manner what skills are on the same tree and in what order. Therefore I think it would be best that you retire this Horizonal-Line Header format and revert to the old Vertical List Box format. --Karlsbad 11:01, 12 July 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Kudos
I ain't quite sure how you did it, but excellent job on managing to keep the dream of using the correct namespace alive. There were other considerations than simply Special:Random of course, like screwing up the number of articles listed, and the inconsistency for the handful of people who are used to how pretty much every other wiki does it, but I digress. –Xoid 00:56, 24 July 2006 (CDT)

[edit] Dendarii page
Heya odd. I uploaded an image for the group I just made, the Dendarii Mercenaries, except when I tried to resize the image as it displayed on that page with wikicode, it appears I borked the page. Now I can't see it. Clicking links to it or inputting the URL by hand both result in blank whiteness. I'm not sure what I did or how to fix it, but luckily on this wiki I can run to a mod. I went through the history to revert it, but i'd still like to have the image on the page in something other than the huge size it was in. I guess I could just upload a resized version...--Skaramuche 18:44, 5 August 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for the tip, well i knew it but my last comment was in a rush so i didnt do it properlly :) Cheers. Slayerek 11:01, 24 August 2006 (CDT)

The comment you are referring to, in Stepping of The Corner, I had not knowingly removed the comment.
[edit] Re: j00 know...
How does Piece of Wood look now? Was this more what you were thinking? --Token Black Man 07:09, 25 October 2006 (CDT)
- Not exactly how I was thinking, but it certainly works! -- Odd Starter A 07:18, 25 October 2006 (CDT)
- Good enough then. I'll use that system for all of the rest. I can already see that I have to overhaul the food page. --Token Black Man 07:27, 25 October 2006 (CDT)
- You know... I think that looks great. I am glad that the items are being divided into what can be found outside and what can be found inside. And the show/hide tweak is good for keeping it look sharp and not cluttered.--Dachibi 16:38, 25 October 2006 (CDT)
[edit] Class Icons
http://wiki.nexuswar.com/index.php/Category:Class_Icon_Images
I put a something in the discussion a few days back, but was wondering if you could help me out...
I'd like the "You Are Dead" Class icon to be put up if possible. -Zizanie13 17:37, 5 March 2007 (CST)
Re: Class Icons Well, normally you'd just take the Image page, and add the category link to it. But, of course, the "You are Dead" symbol isn't a class icon, so if you did add it to that category, I'd probably have to remove it from said category. -- Odd Starter A 23:55, 5 March 2007 (CST)
Is there a place that the "You are Dead" symbol is posted in that size? - Zizanie13 14:36, 6 March 2007 (CST)
[edit] Odd Starter of the Urbandead Wiki?
Hi this is just a question from someone who might have been one of your devotees if it's who I think it is... Were you the guy who started the original search odds project for Urban Dead? -- Jtchang 18:58, 30 March 2007 (CDT)
Wow! You don't mind my continueing your good work here in NW? There's so many different useful things to find... I imagine it would help to know that there was (for example) a better payout if you're looking for something specific in a Vault of Enlightenment than if you went to a pharmacy. Also it was the impetus to get me learning how to do stuff in wiki markup. -- Jtchang 09:53, 31 March 2007 (CDT)
