[edit] j00 know...

I could give you access to all the search locations and spawn rates - what's found where, etc. - if you're going to be doing all the work in that area.--Jorm 04:13, 12 October 2006 (CDT)

Works for me. That way I can just set up each page once. I'll PM you my email address on the forum. I assume that you would only want listed the search locations for items rather than the spawn rates of items? --Token Black Man 21:25, 12 October 2006 (CDT)
Yes, just the locations.--Jorm 21:59, 12 October 2006 (CDT)
No problem. --Token Black Man 23:08, 12 October 2006 (CDT)
Mmm. I did a "sample edit" to see how the entries would look under the current organization system. Example: Pack of Cigaretts. Do you want a detail page that lists all of the items and where they are found, much like the location detail pages, or do you want to stick with how it is currently done? --Token Black Man 02:38, 13 October 2006 (CDT)
HAH! You picked the one item that is found in like, the most places. This is a tough problem. I wish wikimedia had an easy way to show/hide stuff using javascript so we wouldn't have to have everything displayed. Like "(show spawn locations)" and then click on it and bam! there they are.
However, that said, I wonder if it wouldn't be smarter to solve both this problem and the locations problem at the same time.
Also, let me know if you want that list in a different format. I just realized I could probably spit out a wikified version of it for you.--Jorm 04:04, 13 October 2006 (CDT)
Actually, there is an easy way for hiding/showing text. It just needs some additions to Mediawiki:Monobook.js. I placed the needed code to User:Brizth/WIP2. It's taken from wikipedia. I didn't want to play with the actual public wiki inferface code so I didn't place it to Monobook.js myself. But I set a testcase to bottom of my userpage, so if you want you can easily verify that it works. The template I used is currently at User:Brizth/WIP. --Brizth T A 06:47, 13 October 2006 (CDT)
How does it work? --Token Black Man 17:04, 13 October 2006 (CDT)

Just on a somewhat different note, I've noticed that the locations list on Items such as Piece of Wood and Pack of Cigarettes are a touch misleading. Wouldn't it be easier to state that such items exist on "Outside Searches", and then list any internal locations they can be found at? Then we just build a short Wiki page for Outside Search, detailing what that means, and we make things make much more sense. Or am I just rambling here?

I can just make two seconds on the detail page. One for inside and one for outside. --Token Black Man 23:00, 20 October 2006 (CDT)
Not quite the issue I was addressing, but an issue addressed nonetheless. It just occured to me that it's highly likely (and you can probably confirm, having access to the actual details) that there's a generic "Base Outside Search" group for certain items, like Packs of Cigarettes, Pieces of Wood, Rocks and the like. It's not technically a location, but it does act for many intents and purposes just like one, and it may well be worth be setting it up within Locations Found fields, if only to make things a touch more efficient.
Of course, this is impinging on your area of the wiki, thus why I'm pointing it out to you rather than run around doing it myself (well besides the point that I can't confirm this at all without the information you have access to). -- Odd Starter A 23:48, 20 October 2006 (CDT)
The outside searches vary from building to building. There are a group of common items found at buildings, yes, but some locations yeild no items, no matter how many times you search there. I think it would be good for the glossary to have a page for inside and outside searches, and give examples of what can be found there, if only to give people an idea of searching. I think differentiating with each item will inevitably be the way to go, but I'll have to spend some time today looking over the items found and sort everything out.--Token Black Man 04:53, 21 October 2006 (CDT)

Holy crap. You go, man.--Jorm 04:05, 7 March 2007 (CST)

Yup. Had some free time, so I figured I'd hammer out a bunch of pages. I like the new look of the listing page. Much easier to navigate. --Token Black Man 04:07, 7 March 2007 (CST)

[edit] re.: Hiding/Showing text

Are you going to continue doing this? It seems like it'll be a real hassle to create so many new pages just to have a hide feature. Not only that, but it'll be difficult for new users (if they happen to want to add a new location) to place it in there. I do love the idea though, I sort of wish it was more user friendly. --Cpryd001 18:39, 29 December 2006 (CST)

I'd really like to have the 'Locations' pages have that. I was about to imitate it, but then I realized that I would have to go and create 20 new pages, which seems like too much in my opinion. Is there another way to do this? One that makes it so you don't have to make 20 pages, AND make it simple for new users to add things into it?
Since I am a KoL player who frequents the KoLWiki, I was wondering, maybe lay it out how they have it. (http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/The_Haunted_Pantry) Things such as: locations of said items both inside and outside, flavor text, and where they are located at. It's clean and efficent, and a person doesn't have to make 20 pages. Thoughts? Ideas? --Cpryd001 18:39, 29 December 2006 (CST)

Well, I forgot few things: User:Brizth/WIP3 has to be placed into Mediawiki:monobook.css and WIP2 had a small mistake, fixed now. But yeah. Placing those two to monobook.js and monobook.css and User:Brizth/WIP preferably to some apply named template ({{Hidden}} maybe?) and then yes, we would be able to hide/show text. --Brizth T A 18:41, 14 October 2006 (CDT)

Do you have a link to one in action, so I could see what the finished product would look like? --Token Black Man 18:49, 14 October 2006 (CDT)
Here's where I got it from, and here seems to be one in action (inside the top nav box thingie). The actual look of the template is changeable to some extent without touching monobook files. --Brizth T A 18:59, 14 October 2006 (CDT)
Poof. You are now a sysop, and able to make these changes yerself.--Jorm 03:37, 19 October 2006 (CDT)

It seems we have a new sysop, congratulations! Anyway, back to business, why did you remove that bit I added? It is required for the whole hidden thing to work. You might have to shift-reload pages if the change is not visible to you. --Brizth T A 04:12, 19 October 2006 (CDT)

That's why it wasn't working. I'll revert. --Token Black Man 04:18, 19 October 2006 (CDT)
Okay. It's working now. I didn't realize I had to shift-reload pages to see the change. I adjusted the spaces to give a little bit more of a separation between items in order not to have the show link so close to the edit link. --Token Black Man 04:25, 19 October 2006 (CDT)
Do you feel the show/hide link is too far on the right considering the header text? I could move it right next to the header. --Brizth T A 04:29, 19 October 2006 (CDT)
That would be better, I think, as I wouldn't have to put in so many blank lines after each item. Is it also possible to enlarge the text that is initially shown? I'd like to try and match the size of the normal text font if possible. --Token Black Man 04:32, 19 October 2006 (CDT)
Done and done + few extra things done. Looks quite nice now. --Brizth T A 04:42, 19 October 2006 (CDT)
Looks good. Now begins the task of fixing all of the items. We could also use this to help organize the Locations pages and get that under control (once I'm done, of course). --Token Black Man 04:47, 19 October 2006 (CDT)
Brilliant work guys! Looks like there are a lot of pages to make though, so I was wondering if you wanted some help with the grunt work, like the /Found pages? --Roku 02:50, 9 November 2006 (CST)
That's actually pretty easy to do. If you want, you can move the items from the improvised weapon page to a meele weapon page, or organize the clothing page to include each item by colour on a seperate line. The reason for the clothing page alteration is due to the fact that some of the same items are found in different areas, and the only difference being the colour of the item. --Token Black Man 03:59, 9 November 2006 (CST)

[edit] Improvised weapons

Concerning these edits: Shouldn't knives and daggers not be improvised weapons, since they can be crafted/improved and they can break. --Brizth T A 13:40, 6 March 2007 (CST)

I know they aren't, however the person who removed them, never added them to any other page. Plus it was still on the table at the bottom. I was planning on moving all of them to a Melee weapons page where the entries that could break or decay would have an annotation. --Token Black Man 13:43, 6 March 2007 (CST)
Ok, sounds good. --Brizth T A 13:45, 6 March 2007 (CST)
Ranged Weapons is what I will be doing to Improvised, but when I have a little bit more time. Probably tomorrow. --Token Black Man 12:45, 28 March 2007 (CDT)
Or...Today: Melee Weapons --Token Black Man 00:00, 4 April 2007 (CDT)

[edit] Category:Items

Very nice, I like it. --Brizth 18:58, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

Those subcategories were bugging me. I figured this will be more user friendly for the newer players. --Token Black Man 19:08, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

[edit] Project Search Odds

Hey, thanks for giving me organization! It feels much spiffier now! -- Jtchang 07:25, 13 April 2007 (CDT)

Not a problem. Some of the data for each page will need to be fixed, so the tables match the items found at the locations, but you can find all of those under the individual location name on the Locations page. --Token Black Man 17:41, 13 April 2007 (CDT)

[edit] Trouble with Hidden Information

Since I can't edit it on my own... Locations_Stygia/Dark_Cathedral/Found has Poisons listed twice. Velkrin 22:17, 2 October 2007 (CDT)

Also, magical weapons can also be found outside paradise ruins, which isn't in the Magical Weapons/Found Outside template. Ira the Squire 20:47, 1 November 2007 (CDT)
